Conditioning

For all ladies who wash weekly -- do you do the 'whole enchilada' every single week (hot oil, shampoo, deep condition with heat, etc.) or do you sometimes just do a regular shampoo and just leave the conditioner in for a few mins. then rinse and set???

Do you all think it's best to do a deep conditioning (with heating cap) every time you wash, or maybe just a couple of times a month??? Is there such thing as TOO much conditioning??? /images/graemlins/frown.gif Sometimes I find myself using 2 or 3 different conditioners (just letting them sit for a few minutes) just to use some of them up! (Like a lot of us, I have WAY too many). Do you think this is just overkill? I mean, wouldn't you think each might cancel out the effects of the last... /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif Or do you think the benefits just keep adding up... /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I wash my hair every 2 days and I DC each and every time. DC for me is conditoner with a gold self heating cap left on for 40 mins to an hour. I always do it and have felt or seen nothing negative on my hair. I have problems (feeling of dryness) when I don't do it.

I don't find that my hair get's too overconditioned at all, for me with dry hair and in a dry climate it's another way of adding moisture to the hair for me.

It's all about preference. Some people can't condition too often and feel once a week or every fornight is enough DC for them. Toggle your routine and see what works best for you. That's the best way to know.

I've actually found that doubling up on conditioners works wonders too. I've used Power gro silk rinse with ORS, and ORS with elucence and the combos work great for me. It's all about experimentation. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wash my hair once every week and this is my routine:

1. wash
2. deep condition for usually for a 45 min to one hour
{st.ives intensive conditioner moisture treatment,organic root stimulator mayonaise,2 plus one,cpr. i usually switch every week}
3.after i deep condition i use a regular conditoner i keep that on for 5 min then wash out
4. then i apply thermasilk daily conditioner with thermal beads apply for another 5 min or longer.
5. wash out then apply infusium 23 leave in conditoner then proceed with my roller set.

this is done every week so you see i use 5 to 6 conditoners for me it helps strenghten my hair i use a protein every 4 weeks i get a perm once every 3 months when my roots become thick i wash my hair and let my hair air dry with applying infusium 23 and emergency 911 creme conditoner and i wear my hair like this { this would be my protective style i wear until i do my perm, every 3 days i wash my hair to maintain this look so whatever works for you condition, condition, condition /images/graemlins/smile.gif

lindy,

i wash every four days and i deep condition every time, deep conditioning means either a deep treatment or a regular conditioner that i want to get rid off, i put a whole lot in my hair, put on a plastic cap and then leave it on for as much time i have (from 10 minutes to the whole day).
i do hot oil treatments every two weeks right now. sometimes i'm just too lazy to do them but i really force myself to do them at least every two weeks.
i mix conditioners sometimes too if i don't have enough left of one for my hair, so i just add some other stuff to it. i don't think that's bad, but if i have enough of one kind i would not mix it.

mahogani,

i am curious /images/graemlins/grin.gif, why do you put a regular conditioner in your hair after the deep conditioning treatment? or everybody else who does this, is the result better?

I do the exact same thing as this, every 3 days. When I wash, my hair gets the works every time. I don't think that I could change that now. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Nay007, /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do this if I use a DC product that does not give me a lot of slip. Example: UBH conditioner. I love it, but it doesn't make my hair soft, so I need a little something extra.

This goes out to nay007 and to everyone else that would like to know i use a regular conditoner after a deep conditoner for extra conditioning /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I agree with Pebbles. I use a moisturizing conditioner (Humecto) after a DC to give it better 'slip' and added conditioning which makes it softer. /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

I'm haven't been perfect with sticking to my routine, but most of the time I hot oil (olive oil) for moisture, deep condition and then shampoo/condition. I think the deep condition and hot oil treatments are good preventive measures, if the deep conditioner is very moisturizing then I sometimes skip conditioner. I don't think it's a bad idea to leave out either the hot oil or deep condition depending on what my hair needs at the time or if my hair is feeling heavy or greasy.

Hi Lindy. I try to deep condition every week when I shampoo. Lately I've been doing a version of Carolyn Grey's method to use up all the conditioners I have. I double and triple too and I think my hair loves it.

It looks like the general consensus is that there's no such thing as too much conditioning. I'm glad to hear it, because I have so much conditioner to use up!! If I could only use one each time I wash, the conditioners I have would probably last me for years. That's a darn shame, isn't it?? I think we should all consider buying stock in some of these hair care companies!!! We are definitely keeping them in business, and we might end up rich in the long run!!! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Question for LondonDiva!! Do you really wash your hair every 2 days???!!! What do you do, airdry?? I can't imagine that you rollerset every two days!!??
