Ok, I've seached and searched and read and read and still I cannot get it. Please tell this obviously helpless newbie:confused: what I should be doing and what I should be using.

What ingredients should I look for/stay away from in a conditioner?
What should I look for in what I use to seal?
How often should this be done?

Help! I've looked at the Newbie Threads but there is so much good info its just confusing me more.

Welcome,

in a conditioner,-one that mositurizes, and low or no protein,
to seal, look for a oil, such as olive, castor, or a combination of oils
listen to your hair to see what it needs, I personnally mositurize and seal on a daily basis, find what works for your hair, it make take a few products untill you find your way, it is all trial and error, look at the products you already have, to see if you can start with those

a lot of ladies stay away from cones,ie,silicon,
I moisturize with humectress, followed by olive oil, to lock in moisture,
I also somtimes moisturize with olive oil mositurizer followed by olive oil again, or Neutrogena triple moisture leavin conditioner followed by africas best oil, or olive oil, key here is I like olive oil, some ladies also use castor oil, the idea is to lock in the mositure with oil, grease will keep the moisture out, I hope I have helped some, :)

^^what she said. :D

This helped me ALOT when I first got here: http://journals.fotki.com/dontspeakdefeat/newcomer/ It takes alot of reading but you learn SO much valuable info.

For the most part you have to find what works for your hair. There are certain 'techniques' as far as adding oils/extras to your deep conditioner, baggying, etc. But the products take trial and error for YOUR hair. Its frustrating sometimes (Please believe!) but still fun in alot of ways. :)

As far as what to look for when you seal, I believe carrier oils (coconut, EVOO, jojoba, castor) are best. I may be wrong so neone feel free to correct me. I seal w/ EVOO typically but I just got some castor oil so Im gonna try that. See - trial and error... :p

HTH somehow...

Welcome!

Try using Suave Coconut Conditioner, wetting the hair until 50-75% of the conditioner is washed out, spritz a little S-Curl over your length, and coat on some Coconut Oil as a sealant!

Works like a charm! xoxo

Look for a moisturizing conditioner that has water as the first ingredient
(MY favs are Nexxus Humectress and Creame of Nature in the green bottle).

With oils, you want a pretty light oil that will stick to you strands to seal in moisture, but also wear off by the end of the day so you will be able to moisurize the next day.
(My fav oils are jojoba oil and Carol's Daughter Tui Hair oil)
