I've read and heard that red hair coloring is the hardest to color over. My stylist told me that also. Well I'm done with red and I want a really deep chestnut brown or brown red. Any tips and is red hair color hard to cover? I did put a dark rinse in over some my darker red hilights and it didn't take real well. I also included a pic of my current length. I'm 7 weeks post. I'm really aiming for WL by my B-Day July 22. You guys think I can make it? What if I trim an inch could I make it? Oh and I hate clairol beautiful. It made my hair rough and dry.

Looks like you got a lot of growth in seven weeks, so you can probably make WL.

Are you looking to color over it with a permanent or semi permanent color?
Maybe you could try one of those hair color removers and then put in the brown hair color.

Thanks. Do those damage the hair? The color is getting really bright. Usually I just put rinses in and I like it, btu i don't know how the dark color would take on this. I have never used a perm color. To get this color I lighten my hair with luminized and then put a rinse over it.

luminized? what is that ? if you use a brown rinse get a really dark one ... make sure your hair is free from oil when you put it in ...so it will take better and process with heat longer than normal ... that should cover the red . the red might show through a bit ... but not too much . I go between dark and light hair all the time ... I like my hair darker in the winter but not to dark ... although ... I am a fan of red hair... im going to rock henna red hair this summer.

I've used one (Color Oops) and didn't have any damage. Clairol Uncolor Semi-Perm Color Remover might remove the red and take you back to whatever color luminized leaves you with and then you could put the brown over it. I've never used that product though so I don't know if it damages the hair.

Color oops doesn't remove reds or what they call "crazy colors". Only natural colors such as black, browns...

The directions I have just say it wont remove bright pinks, blue, green, lavenders, purples, etc.

but it also says it wont remove semi-permanent hair color so it's a no go either way.

Maybe the Clairol one will work since it says it's for semi-perm colors.

Go to a hair coloring specialist I would advise. Sorry if that didn't happen!!

Re: Coloring Over Red Hair (Pics and New Length Shot WL by July?)--- Get In Here Gymf

Red hair color is impossible to remove unless you bleach. And somtimes even that will leave you with pink hair. You can always color it a very dark color.

Maybe contacting a stylist would be a good thing. Maybe he/she can give you some good advice.

It WILL remove semi-permanent color and permanent color. The box that I used said so.

I used it to remove Bigen permanent hair color in oriental black. And my daughter used it to remove her semi-permanent hair color.

That's from experience.
