Coloring over hi-lites? yay or nay?

Is it possible/logical to cover hi-lites with semi permanent color?

I got hi-lites and am going to get my hair braided, I toyed with the idea of buying hair that matches mine as well as the hi-lited color but I think it might looks crazy once it starts to grow out since my roots will be the color of my natural hair (dark brown) with some chestnut brown braids attached. LOL


Anywhoo, would it be a bad decision to apply semi-permanent color before getting the braids?

If it matters, my hair is 90% "natural."

It is possible, but it won't last very long. I did this some time last year and the semi permanent color only lasted for maybe 2 washes. I eventually covered the highlights with Bigen hair color which is permanent.
