I made a concoction of coconut milk, Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner, avocado oil, and honey, and used it as a post-shampoo treatment. I let it sit in my hair for about an hour under the dryer. This was the ultimate in moisturizing treatments. I don't think my hair has ever felt so soft. I can't stop touching it! Thanks for the heads up, Sengschick!
I'll try it as a pre-shampoo treatment next time to compare results.

That's sound like a wonderful treat!
If you're going to poo, know that you're going to cut the oil w/the shampoo. You keep it if you just condition wash.
I used a different brand of coconut milk last night. I used Thai Kitchen Premium Coconut Milk (little under $2). It's very different from the Latin formulation I used last time. I picked the Thai b/c it listed two items, coconut milk and guar guar gum (natural preservative), and to see if there was a difference.
Thai CM is milker in consistency, heavier in weight, not as thin, so it's easier to control. Also has some clumps of coconut (I like), smells more like slightly spoiled milk. I like the smell of the Latin version a little better. I used 1/4 to 1/3 of the can, added honey and Nature's Gate Rainwater w/Rosemary Conditioner. It sat for an hour or so.
The coating was lighter and my hair didn't feel as soft while rinsing (but it was feeling a little dry anyway yesterday). The longer I stayed under the water the more oil seemed to surface and my hair felt more coated. I think rinsing it w/warm water helps, as opposed to cool water rinsing that is typically suggested. I rinsed, used more conditioner, sat w/heat... my ususal. I didn't really notice the oil in my hair when I finished my process. But today it's really soft again, moisturized and shiny.
So if you like the feeling of a heavier oil and if your hair can tolerate it, the Latin companies probably have the blend for you. If you want a lighter oil or the feeling of not having the oil, but the benefits, try the Thai.
Sengschick: I intend to use my thai CM tonite with following ingredients (coconut extract, water, citric acid, sodium metabisulfite) previously posted. I guess I am now wondering how this list of ingredient compares to the latin version. I do NOT like oils or the feel of oils on my hair. Do you think these ingredients will be lighter or heavier? TIA
OK...I just did the coconut milk treatment last night. I used the Goya brand. It worked good. My dryer fell on my foot and broke so I never did get to sit under there for deep conditioning!! Regardless, I liked the results. My hair has been dry dry dry since I big chopped and this mixed with some of my other conditioners brought it back to life.

@ Carletta-- At least it's a cheap product to buy! It's under $1 per application... come on sweetie, your hair will thank you!!
@ Neroli-- I'm not sure. It'll depend on what it looks like when you open the can. If it's a heavy cream and I think Thai cook prefers heavy, it'll yield less oil than the Latin brands. Thick being, heavy enough to stick to the sides of the can. Since you don't like oil you should try what I did last night. Use it as a pre-treatment, rinse. Condition wash, rinse and repeat. I sat w/heat during the second cw. My hair didn't feel oily at all when I finished and doesn't now. Using cooler water will also keep the feeling of the oil at bay while you are still washing and rinsing.
I LOVE coconut milk!! I did a conditioner wash on friday using the following mixture (1/3 cup suave humectant conditioner, 3 tablespoons honey, 1/4 cup coconut milk, 1 teaspoon castor oil, 1 teaspoon jojoba oil). I messaged scalp and detangle hair with large tooth comb; applied mixture to day hair and covered with plastic cap for 30 minutes. Rinsed with cool water and final ACV rinse. Toweled dry and applied leavein mixture of nexxus headress, giovanni direct & rosemary oil. Rollerset and hood dried on cool for 2 hours. AAAAHHHHH! My hair feels like silk -- smooth and strong. I'm loving this. Can't wait to wash tonight! This is a keeper!
More praises for the MILK today. Last night I used the leftover Thai Kitchen milk w/heat and Humectress.
Is this MY HAIR?!
What sheer pleasure!!! I never put that K-Cutter near my hair unless I have a Phyto conditioner in it first, but I didn't even need it!!! My hair is moist, moist, moist, shiny and soft, soft, soft. When I rinsed I had the wonderful slip still from the oil in the milk. YUMMY! I'm buying 10 cans on my next trip to the store.
Is JFC a Latin company? I think I have a slight preference for the Latin blend, but I do like the thick, rich body of the Thai. It's so much easier to handle. Maybe I'll buy half and half.

My results have been so-so. I didn't really notice much of a difference after rinsing but no damage was done either. I'll keep experimenting with it.
I used the Goya brand on wet hair as a pre-treatment to my conditioner wash.

Hummm.
I did notice that when I use it as a pre-treatment w/other conditioners (only happened w/the Thai formula too) it seemed to wash the oil away, so I didn't notice it much either. When I mixed it w/other oils for pre-treatment it didn't stand out then either. Heat and Humectress, and no heat w/Nature's Gate Herbal seemed to compliment each other well. And just using it in greater portion than other products yielded better results.

Hail to the coconut lady! Thanks so much for your reviews on coconut milk
And thanks to all others who have given it a try and offered their own reviews.
I went grocery shoppin' today and thought I'd see if they had any. I found the GOYA brand of coconut milk at VONS in the ethnic food section (not the baking section). I plan on doing my long awaited Henna treatment tomorrow, and I'll try the coconut milk afterwards, as a deep conditioner... hopefully it won't 'undo' the results of the Henna. Either way, I can't wait for crazy SLIP!

N'all girl. Not at all
. Coconut water is....ummmm.... watery.
It's like regular old water, w/coconut bits floating in it (I didn't find it very tasty either). It's sort of cloudy from the coconut, but that's it. The oil is in the milk.

Whoo Hoo!! I am so impressed that something could INFUSE my hair with so much... SHINE! And I thought you had to be born with it
I have never in my life seen my natural hair so full of life without the aid of ANY product--just simply washing/conditioning??? Wow.
This is what I did (I felt like a chemist for the first time): The GOYA brand was VERY liquidy, so I added some deep conditioner, honey (my first time using this), Castor oil, and some olive oil. It was still real liquidy anyway, so I just poured in the whole can of coconut milk. After rinsing my henna, I washed a little, rinsed, and then poured my mix over my hair while rubbing it in slowly so that it doesn't waste. I have big hair so I used the whole mixture easily. Some time later.... I didn't feel any slip when rinsing, my hair almost wasn't giving
, but when I pat dry my hair and part it for blowdrying, my hair was just gleaming and glistening, and felt so soft too. I blow dried the hair straight and oooohhh how shiny and smooth it came out (I'll have pics next month!), better than when I blow dried just last week... this time it came out straighter and veeery smooth. Man, I wish my hair could be like this all the time, it looks so sexy!
I'm actually about to suprise my b/f with it
Next, I'mma try these other coconut brands you're all talking about
