My hair is almost at my goal length now (APL). The first year was a lot of trial and ERROR. A lot of product sampling and inconsistency with establishing and sticking with a regimen. Only last year did I begin to figure out what worked for my hair (stopped trying to reinvent the wheel). Since then, it has gotten much healthier and is starting to get longer. I'm considering modifying my goal length to bra strap...I can almost see it in my minds eye.

At the time I joined my hair was very overprocessed with half inch broken off pieces all over. My only goal then was to get my hair back healthy again. Everything else I learned here was extra and absolutely wonderful

hopeful said:This is my story too! My hair was relaxed and very pitiful. I had an allergic reaction to a relaxer and my kitchen area completely broke off and my scalp felt like it was on fire, the area was red and itchy as well. So I came here very sad. Joined December 2004 after lurking for maybe a week. I had been struggling for so long with my hair and this allergic reaction was kind of a final straw. After a few days of reading the LHCF threads I began to feel "hopeful," thus my name here.
I'd had problems with my nape from my very first relaxer at 13. So when ladies kept saying they had grown their kitchens out with moisture, low manipulation and some by going natural as well, I was so thrilled. I did a bc January of 2005. Seven months later I caved and relaxed again, a few months later my hair was breaking again (and I missed my natural hair too). So I bc'd again in March of 2006 and reached my one year natural anniversary a little over a month ago.
My kitchen area is growing in quite nicely now. A year from now I'm sure I will have really wonderful progress. Right now my hair is pretty much at the length it usually got to in the past so any additional length from here is significant progress as far as I'm concerned.
And Hottopic, your hair is fabulous, your growth is very impressive! Thanks too for starting this thread.
ETA: I can't really answer the poll cuz I didn't really have a goal to start with I just needed help and I got it. I now feel confident enough to make concrete goals so holla at a sister a year from now!

Same here.texasqt said:Same here. I think I paid my $5 in September 2006 and that was when I really started paying attention to what was going on with my head. In 2004 I posted a few questions but never set a goal for myself and never created a regimen. Then I had a really bad hair day in August and was like - "something has got to give!" So here I am chasing APL for the first time and I see it coming!
Edited to add: I just saw my start date was February 2004. If only I applied then what I'm applying now! What a shame!
