Hey Ladies,

I'm natural and wear my hair in a puff wash n go everyday. I currently go to the hairdresser once a month to have my hair straightened, washed thoroughly and clarified. However now I'm thinking about cutting my hairdresser visits down to every 2-3 months, but the problem is that I don't know what to do to clarify my hair on my own. So the question is what do you ladies do to clarify? What product do you use? I know some people do an ACV rinse, but what is the exact process for that? Also I have dry hair, so what do you ladies do to combat dryness when clarifying? Thanks girls.

Ion Clarifying Shampoo from Sally's. LOVE IT.

I always follow with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

ACV rinses and my hair do not get along. :nono: I find that no matter how much I moisturize after acv, my hair feels extra wiry.

Thanks JCoily. I picked up some KeraCare 1st Lather (they didn't have Ion at the beauty supply store I went to). I'll see how it works.

i like ACV rinses... but those are more for my scalp than my hair. gets rid of the itchies. :D

also i am a frequent co-washer so i use Trader Joe's Nourish shampoo once a week or so to actually wash my hair because it doesn't contain SLS. sometimes i use products with mineral oil/petroletum or heavy cones that require a stronger shampoo... that's when i like to use Aubrey Organics Honeysucke Rose shampoo. for not having any SLS, that stuff is STRONG. normally it leaves my hair feeling stripped clean, so i don't use it often. when i do, i ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS follow it up with the matching conditioner... that stuff is super-moisturizing but very light and doesn't weigh down my hair. it's pricey though... $9 a bottle! V05 has a shampoo with green tea in it that i thought cleans the hair well without stripping too much moisture, but it has SLS... i don't know if you are trying to avoid that ingredient or not...

I am glad that you asked what to do! You know that we will help you :) I like to use neutrogena clarifying, or suave clear. I don't use a lot, but I make sure that I get my scalp a good massage w/ my finger pads, and I squeeze the rest of the shampoo through my hair. I always follow up w/ a condition or a dc tx. I like oyin honey hemp, dpr-11,the purple herbal essences for curls. My hair just feels great. I don't use heat, unless I really want to do a special deep conditioning.

Hey Girly, I was wondering about clarifying too. So I did some research and decided on using some baking soda to clarify. I just used some regular shampoo and added about a teaspoon of baking soda to each hand full I put in (I used about 2 handfuls). Well it worked wonders on my hair, It felt a little dry after but then I used a moisturizing conditioner and my hair felt terrific!! Hope this helps.

I use Nexxus Aloe Rid.

Cosign: I love this stuff, it's the only thing that gets my hair super clean without stripping it. During the summer when I swim a lot I use it with the Aloe Rid Treatment to get ALL the junk out of my hair.

Thanks Ladies. I really wanted to try Nexxus Aloe Rid but they didn't have it at the beauty supply store I went to so I settled on KeraCare 1st Lather. I've heard good things about it on the hairboard so hopefully it works for me.

I can't use clarifying shampoos my hair takes a while to bounce back so after I shampoo which is once a week I have my mixture of 2 tbsp baking soda with 2 cups of warm water I pour that over my hair and then I proceed to deep condition it works great for my hair and my hair don't feel dry at all, hth

Thanks ladies for all your advice. I tried Keracare 1st Lather today and it worked beautifully. My curls are popping more than ever and all I have in my hair is ntm silk touch leave-in conditioner. :)

I'm natural as well...to clarify I just simply use Suave's Clarifying Shampoo when I wash (which is about every 2 weeks) then condition with a nice smelling v05 Conditioner :D

i tried this once and my hair was wiry and dry afterwards. i tried baking soda another time and didn't really like the feel.
i use IC tea shampoo for clarifying. you don't need alot and i dilute a capful with a cup of warm water. i pour it on my scalp and let it sit for 1 min then i masage my scalp and rinse. good as new for the next few months at least. i have had it now for about 4 yrs and i still have quite a few washes left.

I do the same but I have to follow up with shampoo. I then deep condition as usual.

Another vote or Aloe Rid here! I love that shampoo. Redken Cleansing Cream is also excellent.

I second that. I love the Redken Cream, it leaves my hair very soft. Maybe I should also try Aloe Rid. I only use it once a month...

to clarify my hair i mix baking soda in with my shampoo. but if i want to clarify mostly my scalp then i do an ACV rinse. both are cheap, effective ways to clean your hair. i haven't had any problems with dryness using these methods. follow it up with a moisturizing conditioner and you should be fine

I was wondering if clarifying with baking soda and conditioner (Vo5) enough to get your hair clean. Or does it need to been done with shampoo?

I have read on NP that some members do this.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Giovanii Tea Tree Shampoo. I think it's called Triple Treat Tea Tree Shampoo.
