Ladies,

Is is ok to clarify the week after a relaxer? When do you normally clarify? I'm still new to all of this, I've never clarified  , but would like to start because I do notice buildup in my hair sometimes.

A week after? I have to say no unless you have some seriously heavy product buildup.

You may want to wait 3 weeks, or clarify every 3-4 weeks unless you're using a lot of products.

I wouldn't clarify that soon after a relaxer. Since you are re-working moisture and protein back to your hair you don't want to strip it down that soon after relaxing, IMHO. I would wait 3+ weeks before I clarify. Since being on LHCF I believe that I would baby my hair for a month after getting a touch up, making sure that it had all the moisture and protein it needed after a chemical treatment.

What kind of buildup are you referring to? Product build up or relaxer buildup (from a no-lye)?

You could clarify at any point, but you'd want to be mindful of encouraging dryness. Any clarifying you do would need to be countered with some really good deep conditioning later.

I do :look:

But, the one I use actually makes my hair feel good unlike others I've tried.

I always clarify the 1st wash after my relaxer--which is usually 4-7 days after getting it.

Moisture and protein have not been an issue b/c I always do an Emergence Treatment after and DC.
