I'm trying to establish some sort of regimen. I was thinking of clarifying and protein treating every six weeks. I know both are drying to the hair. What are some of your opinions?

I do it all the time. I always clarify when I do my aphogee protein treatment a week before my relaxer. That way I'm removing all of the buildup so that the treatment will be maximized along with the relaxer. I always follow with a moisturizing deep cond under heat.

Even though it can be drying, clarifying is a good thing. It allows the buildup of product to be washed away so the products you use can actually reach the hair shaft to treat it.

Without clarifying, the protein treatment would not be effective. Sometimes, you evenhave to go so far as chelating too.

I clarify regularly with Elucence and it also says that it chelates. I sometimes follow with protein but always use someting moisturizing afterwards. I don't have any problems doing this. HTH

Thanks ladies, you're the best! I was somewhat iffy about doing this. I think now I'm on my way to figuring out a routine that will work for me.

This is the only way I do protein. I feel like I'll benefit more if my hair is totally clean.

I think its a good idea too.

I clarify w/AVC and Aphogee/DC mix. I haven't experienced any extra dryness.

I do it all the time. I clarify everytime I shampoo so I do it on protein treatment days, as well. Sometimes my protein is done on dry hair before shampooing - then I clarify afterwards.

if I was suffering from dry hair, I would not do it all the time like that - but I actually have the problem of over-moisturizing so I don't notice any dryness from my routine.

I don't think protein treatments are drying to the hair. Actually, I always clarify before using a protein treatment.

That's how I always do it. Just make sure your clarifying poo is not drying to YOUR hair, mine is'nt and neither is my protein treatments.
