Is it wise to use a clarifying shampoo and then immediately follow it with a protein treatement or is that too much for the hair?

I have this awful build up on my hair this week and the ends are breaking slightly and I kinda wanted to knock both problems out in one session... any advice?

A clarifying shampoo and protein mixed are no lethal combination. Your hair will probably feel a bit more dry but I would use a VERY, VERY, moist conditioner. I would actually use a moisturizing deep conditioner (with no protein) and a rinse out. Some suggestions (affordable) are Moist by Aussie, Infusium 23's Moisturizing rinse out conditioner, Aphogee's Balancing Moisturizer or Wella Balsalm. Also check out the Loreal line suggested by Tee.

i do this from time to time. i use pantene clarifying shampoo and wash twice to make sure my hair is clean. then i apply the moisturizing oil protein conditioner from motions. i use a whole lot and let it sit for a while. afterwards i just rinse and apply my usual stuff (leave in and liquid hollywood beauty carrot oil) and then put my hair in two braids and air dry. i never had problems before but as i always point out: your hairtype is very important when it comes to products and routines. so i can only speak for my hair here. but if you try it i hope you will have nice results.

I don't believe this would be too much for the hair either. Follow the protein treatment with a deep conditioning moisturizer, and you should be fine. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm agreeing with everyone I don't think this would be harmful just make sure to follow with a mositurizing deep conditioning treatment ( I am partial to Motions CPR). In fact I think doing a protein treatment after clarifying may help the protein penetrate better because there is no product buildup to get in the way. I think I'll start doing my intensive protein treatments (every 6 weekers) after clarifying. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I did just that two days ago, followed by a moisturising conditioner, and my hair suffered no adverse effects that I can see. On the contrary, it looks great, and there is significantly less breakage.
