Kenesha you go girl!! I have been transitioning since 10/22/03 and it is hard!!! I don't plan to do the big chop but I must say nti does sound tempting! You go girl! PLease please post pics...maybe u will keep me from slipping up and getting a relaxer or texturizer.
I've told my fiance I was going natural for a while now, but he thought I was going to wait a while for the BC, but I told him that I was going to do it this weekend, "No time like the present". All he asked me was, "Are you sure?" then after I said yes he was like alright. I told him he doesn't know how grateful I am that he's cool with it, because I've heard so many stories of men being PO'd after their girlfriend/fiance/wife did the BC. He said hey it's just hair, if I'm attracted to you I'm attracted to YOU! I LOVE THIS MAN!!!
I will make sure to take pictures. We are both getting our hair done on the same day...he's getting twists and I'm getting the BC!
I know my hair will grow back soon and even stronger so don't anyone be discouraged, if I inspired you with the relaxer hopefully I can as a natural as well
I also want to thank everyone who inspired me while I was relaxed and showed me that I could have long healthy relaxed hair and I want to thank all of the naturals on the board that inspired me to go on another route with my hair journey.
P.S. My mom is gonna be pissed so I'm just gonna come and visit her next week with my new haircut!
Ms. Kenesha - keep us posted on everything concerning the transition. I am using you as my guinea pig. I plan on getting braids soon and may consider transitioning. You will look good regardless if your hair is natural or relaxed.
If this is what you really want then that's wonderul. The fact that your fiance is cool with it too, is the icing on the cake.
When I did a big chop 3 years ago (into a Halle Berry cut, I was still relaxed). My hair dresser said that a short cut will look good on anyone who has the face for it. I definitely believe you do. You are very pretty.
Good luck sweetie, I can't wait to see your pics.!!!
Congratulations Ms K!! I'm transitioning too and will post pics once I get with the 21st century and get a digital camera! But your fiance sounds like a wonderful person!! That's great he's so supportive! I had a bad experience with that in the past so that's really great! I think I'm going to do my BC in June/July. And yes, you will be a wonderful inspiration to us all as a natural just as you were as a relaxed! I LOVE this site! We're so supportive of being relaxed, natural, texturized whatever! And yes, your hair will grow like crazy!! By September you have much more length than you ever would have though! Also, the SCurl works wonders for natural hair!! Good Luck and good growing!!!
I can't wait to see your pics with the BC. You're going to look so cute with it
.
I remember when I did the BC 4 years ago. I thought I was going to look stupid with it because I have plenty forehead. To my surprise it looked good. Also, don't dwell on what your mother thinks about it, she'll get over it soon enough.
Go Girl!
I'm trabsitioning, just "chopped all of my hair into a short choppy bob that I can tuck behind my ears. It now leaves the back of my hair mostly natural, with some relaxer to grow out on top... I LOVE IT!
Oh I know I am going to catch it for this. But, don't do it. You can grow your hair out gradually without cutting it all at once. You can do twist and braidouts b/c you have more than enough hair to do that. I just think brides look their best in weddings when their hair is as much as all theirs. Well, I know you have probably made up your mind by now. But just remember all your styling options with transitioning. I have a friend that goes 9 months without relaxing and her hair looks great. Remember wildgrowth hair oil is great for transitioning. I just don't want you to look back with any regrets. I look at my wedding photos all the time and I'm only 24. I'm just soo happy that I didn't do anything drastic with my hair. Well, regardless of your decision, you will always be beautiful.
Thanks for you taking my future feelings into consideration, but I am definitely gung-ho about my decision. I'd rather be an all natural bride (w/o added hair) than be a transitioning bride with 3-7in. (wishful thinking) of new growth that I'm trying to battle to hide or plan a hairstyle around in my wedding pictures.
I am happy for you, but didn't you want your hair to look a certain way for your wedding, that's the reason your were growing it out? Have you changed your mind about that too?

I did want a certain look, but with us postponing the wedding and everything I didn't want that look so bad that I either kept perming or kept transtioning (which is hell for me). Plus, I had to ask myself why did I want that certain look...why was that what I considered a beautiful bride to look like...and face the facts...<font color="red">I'ma be a beautiful bride no matter what!
I see where Tiger Orange is coming from. From what i've read all the wedding "experts" caution against doing anything too drastic before your wedding. They say that you'll want the pictures to look like "you", IYKWIM...
BUT...it seems as though MsK has done some soul searching and is going into this BC with her eyes wide open, so I think she'll be fine, but I do see Tiger Orange's point too...
