I just did the big chop since my ends were ridiculous. I was holding on to so much damaged hair just for the length. I didn't want short hair and was holding on for dear life but I finally chopped it just above chin length. I'm glad for good ends and I'm getting used to it. But have you ever had like, withdrawels or something when you so someone with the hair you used to have and you think. I used to have more hair than her. I don't know why but I feel that way. :ahwell:

Girl I know how you feel... Don't worry it will grow back :)
and yes i have had withdrawals i tell you every time i have to cut my ends i go numb and then i pray to the hair gods when they take the rolls out hoping that they didn't cut alot of hair... and then you have to get use to the length... and what bugs me out is when they say i didn't cut to much mommy lol

Hey Ann,

I just did a big chop too. I was transitioning and my goal was for a year. But my ends started to look very untidy, so I just chopped it off in only 9 months of transitioning.

Now, to my new hair and length...I am getting use to it everyday. Infact the great thing it is all one texture now and I can really get down to business :). I am learning so much about my new hair and by my suprise my co-workers love it.

So I am not to concern about the length right now. I like versatility. And this is a change, length and texture wise.
I am just having fun with it. Besides it will grow back :)

I feel you on that one. Get some cute hair clips and other accessories (hair friendly of course) and experiment with different looks.

I've done several chops in the past year or so. Last week a did a good amount of trimming to get rid of thin, dead ends. I'm about chin length also, two years ago about this time I was an inch or two past shoulder length and I miss my hair. Since we're starting out at the same place we can help to encourage each other along the way. My short term goal is to be about shoulder length by January. We can do it girl!

I need a good chop and even though I want to grow my hair I also want a new look.

I'm confused. I know after I get the cut I will start having withdrawals and wishing for my hair to grow back.

I was thinking the same thing recently, but after reading AnnDriena's post I'm going to go ahead and get 4 inches cut off. I know how fast my hair grows, but if I hang on to knotted ends then it'll seem like my hair isn't growing at all. I need a new look anyway. I even found a cute style I like in this month's Sophisticate's Black Hair.

Since I removed my braids last week, I've cut about a total of 3-4 inches. I'm at chin length now so I'll be your support! Just think--you now have fresh damage-free ends and healthy hair!!

In my sophomore year of college, which was I guess between 3 and 4 years ago, I did a big chop. I had been taking some meds that caused massive hair loss and on one particular visit to a salon the stylists told me she couldnt style the few long strands left. I bawled in the chair as she cut my hair to above chin length.
At that point i felt it would never grow back but now I know better.

Ahh man, I can't wait until I do the big chop. I couldn't possibly wait for 7 months! As soon as I get just a little length I'm kissing these relaxed ends good writtens!

I think I know what you mean about reminising about having longer her than another woman. Everytime I cut my hair and see someone whose hair is longer than my new cut, I wish that sometimes I could go back before I cut my hair just so it's longer than hers for that very moment. I don't mean this in a b*tchy or catty way at all, I don't know? Sometimes I want to randomly tell strangers I cut my hair for fun and show them a pic of me before I cut it...but then that would be too extreme and people might think I'm crazy

Does that all make sense?

I am with you on that...my hair has always been the longest compared to my cousin who always would cut her hair. Well, that is until 1999 my hair became very damage, long and "see through" and for years my hair just stayed at the same length alittle passed my shoulders. The irony of this is my cousin in 2000 started to let her hair grow and each time I saw her, I just couldn't believe how long her hair was getting. Then she did it she went pass my length and now her hair is below bra strap and by 2003 my hair wasn't even shoulder length (almost all of it broke off)

Well that was my key to go ahead and just go natural...would you believe my natural hair in less than a year has already grown to the same length that I had started transitioned with.

Now If I didn't learn anything from this, I learned that if you continue to hang on the dead unhealthy hair it will get worse, there is NO REPAIRING and hair growth equals healthy hair.

Thanks, you ladies made me feel much better I just got my ends cut and she took off more than I expected her too. I went for my touch up on Monday and noticed when she was done my ends looked very untidy, so I asked her to clip the ends a little and that's what she did though I think it was a little too much. /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/whyme.gif
