chemical damage

Can hair that has been chemically damaged be saved? Or at least made to look presentable until it can be trimmed?

Okay, well...My mom was doing my relaxers for as long as I can remember, and she thought a comb through meant you pulled the relaxer all the way to the end. Well, I put a stop to that very soon after she started, but I didn't notice the damage that it had been caused until I was in the dry winter air and I stopped grasing my scalp. I'm looking for coconut oil because I know it does a LOT for the hair in terms or moisture. Other people don't notice the dryness and they say my hair looks better every time they see me, but I NOTICE and it bothers me!

Absolutly I think you can fix relaxer damage.. Ive also always had a pull through,, from the time I was 8 yrs old till I recently discouvered this board. Yet my hair was still healthy , shiny, soft, ailky, thick and brastrap length. I think the reason my hair didn't break off into sheds is because I've always washed my hair every 2 or 3 days. kept it moistuized, slashed water on it constantly thruout the day, out of sheer luck invested in good quality silk sheet set, air dried my hair and barely every used heat......... LUCKILY. I must say I'm thankful I still have hair ono my head from yrs of relaxer pull troughs,, I got away with it but this is a big nono! However it does show you if you do take extra care of your hair,, especially with moisture and reduction of heat, you should be a-ok!

You could try to use a reconstructor, like Nexxus Emergencee or Aphogee Treatment for Damaged Hair, and follow-up with a moisturizing conditioner like Nexxus Humectress, Motions CPR, or Motions Moisture Plus. All of these products have worked for me with excellent results. My hair has never been stronger, the Motions CPR definitely helped me when I had severe chemical damage (about4 1/2 years ago). You have to stop the damage and breakage before it affects the healthy strands of your hair. These products should hold you until your next trim.

Also, I swear by coconut oil, so if you can get some, 100% pure unrefined - the kind that melts at 73 degress, you should be fine. There are lots of other oils you could probably use (check out some of the later threads), but coconut works on some of the dry spots I had in my hair (due to switching over to no-lye).

You ladies have definately taken a load off my shoulders!!! I think another problem that I've had is using too much protein (try nexxus keraphx once a week for MONTHS!!!) I've used Nexxus Humectress for one regular wash and one condition only wash and I'm waiting to see the results of that. I recently stopped using heat about a month ago..so my problem might also be that I need to learn how to air dry my hair without overdrying my hair. Thanks again ladies I'm relieved!!!!
