hmm... i don't see why this wouldn't work, especially if it is 100% PURE cocoa butter. like, no mineral oil or anything mixed in...

i don't trust queen helene after they came out with cholesterol (aka hair death in a bottle )

some good things to mix in would be a bit of essential oil for scent... glycerin to improve the consistency and add moisture... and maybe some silk amino acids?

i dunno :scratchch

I melt down sticks to make my homemade body lotion. Seems fine to me. But I haven't used it in my hair though.

lol @ hair death in a bottle..i dont use queen helene its just the only picture i could find and no there is nothing added to it..its PURE cocoa butter

These sticks are great. I have used them in hair butters that I have made over the years with no problems.

For 99 cents, you can't go wrong.

Try a small batch first and see how it works for you.

I mix this with my shea butter and castor oil mixture.

I used to make a creamy shea/cocoa butter/aloe vera gel mixture that was wonderful.

Rosie, you read my mind! I melted half a stick in the microwave with a "pinch" of castor oil and then braided my hair for a braidout. My hair was so moisturized! I'm sold on some .99 cocoa butter!

I tried that years ago. I can barely remember what I put in it but I know I used jojoba oil and one or two essential oils

I was thinking of doing this same thing. When I looked at the ingredients of the Palmer's butter stick I was turned off. I think it had beeswax and mineral oil in it....probably petrolatum too.

Which stick are you using and what are the ingredients if you don't mind posting? I still want to try this.

Sally's has the cocoa butter sticks. I bought mine for $1.99. It's called, "Cococare," and it's only ingredient is cocoa butter.

i metled a stick of cocoa butter in the microwave then added some EVOO and aloe vera gel then stirred it..and at first i thought they werent going to mix but i left it alone for a little while and it turned into a butter so i whipped it a little more and put some on my hair and it turned out great and it wasnt as greasy as i expected it to be

pokahontas- i get my from the dollar general for .50 and its straight up 100% cocoa butter and the brand is Woltra

i have another update lol..ok so it's been hours since i mixed all my stuff and now its kind of firm NOT HARD just firm so i just took a little and rubbed it in my hands and you can feel coolness from the aloe vera gel being in it..but besides that it melts down in like one rub

I've been using Biolage Fortifying Leave-In Treatment, along with my cocoa butter, castor oil and just added: aloe vera gel. I realized that I didn't have to add any more product to my hair for my braidout. My hair is a little on the greasy side but I think in a couple of days, my hair and scalp will absorb it all. Overall, I think I'm on to something!

What's wrong with their cholesterol??????????????

My mother bought some in a tube jar and I was planning on snatching it when I took my braids out. Is something wrong with the brands ingredients???

.99 cents?! You girls have me wanting to jump on this deal! I've been wanting something to use as a deep conditioner. I'm going to check out Sally's and my nearest dollar general.

That's what i used to get. I think that I have a couple of them under my sink.

Bumping..........I got my cocoa butter from Sally's.......now what should I add to it? Anybody mixed up a good hair concoction, please share.

in brooklyn on atlantic avenue you can go to MEDINA's and get raw cocoa butter and raw shea butter its pretty inexpensive.

had to bump this up... i made THE most delicious smelling concoction using those queen helene cocoa butter sticks...

-4 whole sticks of queen helene cocoa butter (or you can use 4 oz of cocoa butter)
- 7 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 2 oz. of pure vegetable glycerin
- 1 oz. of pure unrefined coconut oil

melted this down in the microwave, and it smelled like minty chocolately heaven. :lick:

i think i left it in the microwave too long, because the cocoa butter and coconut oil didn't re-solidify.

i've used it on my legs as a moisturizer (they feel super soft and still smell yummy, even 5 hours after i put it on), and when i put a bit of this on my hair, it gave it a nice shine.

i'll keep experimenting with this.

WHAT A GREAT THREAD!!!

some of the ingredients are iffy.

but i'm not trying to shoot it down completely, some people say it works well for them. it just never worked for me, and i'm not a fan of formaldehyde in my conditioners :spinning:
