Challenge of all Challenges: NO HEAT til APL,BSL,MBL,WL,HL, or TBL

ETA: My hair isn't super straight since I don't allow my hairdresser to flat-iron my hair after relaxing anymore, she just uses the blow-dryer and round brush to get it straight.

^ LESS HEAT! I'm trying, y'all.

UPDATE: Relaxed with PICTURES! Made BSB barely but claiming it to stay positive, it won't be long before I'm confident in my hair's length since it'll grow out more by the next relaxer. I put my hair in a bun to make it wavy with volume so it's not sleek straight to see the length fully, sorry. It would have been blow-dried straight but since I'm in this challenge, I personally will not be using heat on my own hair, only my stylist will when I go for touch-ups.

For my wash yesterday, I did a pre-poo with my safflower oil-EVOO-conditioner-molasses mixture, shampooed with Aussie Moist Shampoo, and conditioned with ORS Hair Mayonnaise. I know it is not advised to use protein after using molasses but I wanted to strengthen and provide intense conditioning to my hair. As a result my hair came out feeling really moisturised and strong.

I have new goals, I'm going to take better care of my scalp and take more initiative instead of being lazy so I can RETAIN, RETAIN, RETAIN. I'm also going to watch my moisture/protein balance more carefully instead of just using what I feel like on my hair for frivolous reasons.

Just checking in (it's been a minute). I am in twist right now. Trying to do the low manipulation until the end of June. Hopefully I will be very close to MBL by then. I said I wasn't going to straighten until WL but I think if I make MBL around that time, I'm going for it!!!

Super neglecting my hair lately..but no heat. =] I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with it. I really want to make myself a weave on a stocking cap, braid my hair down and rock it for a lil while. I'm just not in the mood to be styling it daily. Plus I'm starting to work out more regularly. I dunno what I'm gonna do..but I'm going to be going the low manipulation route for sure.

I'm in til APL which for me is 10in and I'm currently 5 1/2in. Hopefully I will be there by Christmas!!

UPDATE: Still not using heat and happy. No temptations to use heat so far really... I'm content and will probably stick with this even after WL since it's less manipulation.

Feels thicker and healthier... Maybe that's just the joy of a good DC lol. I do need a trim though, and want it pin straight so there's no other kinky-haired mishaps again...

I haven't used direct heat since 12/8/10. That was my last and final visit to my stylist.

I remember thinking - Why do you need to blow dry, brush, AND use a flat iron? I have a relaxer. That's straight enough for me. What's all the extra heat for? I became a DIYer with my very next relaxer.

I planned to go all year without direct heat, but I'm doing so well without it I may not ever use it again!

My hair is doing well! I had a 2 day urge to flat iron my hair. So I just put it in a bun and kept a scarf on it! Whew...glad that's over!

Is it okay if I blow out my fro for Afro Day in July?? I'm planning on doing that so I can also do a length check...other than that i don't plan on using heat except for length checks every 6 months.

What about diffusing??...maybe I shouldn't join

if you check out Taren916 on YT... i think she had to BC b/c of the diffuser

why not diffuse on cold???? perfect combination, and i bet you get much better results on the curls

Naw…Taren got heat damage from flat ironing too frequently.

I diffuse in low heat....it's just like using a hooded dryer to me. (I recently discovered this) but I only do it when I need my hair to dry a lil faster

And I'm afraid to do a blowout on airdried hair...even if it's stretched....that will equal breakage for me

I think I'll try Mae's blowout method...aka naturalchica on YouTube.

UPDATE: Still not using heat. Some of my hair MBL, not claiming it until later or until my next relaxer. I really want my bangs to grow out, they were cute but too much trouble to maintain.

Only 1 more milestone until I can use heat, not exactly excited though, I've gone so long without blow-drying it's like second nature.

pleaaase add me to this challenge. i experienced major heat damage in the front of my hair from the flat iron. i vow to not flat iron my hair until bsl.
however i will make an exception for bkt's every 2-3 months

Ok, I am joining the NO HEAT pledge/challenge until I reach my goal of APL. I haven't used heat in the past 2 months-a feat for me. I do plan on doing a length check in September. I don't plan on making APL until December/January of next year.

UPDATE: I flat iron my hair to do a dusting and did a length check. I am an 1 1/2" away from my personal goal of MBL. I know I wasn't suppose to do it until I'm MBL but I really need to dust my ends. I won't flat iron my hair again until October (my birthday) and I know I will be MBL by then...hopefully closer to WL!

UPDATE: I blow-dried the other day on high heat because I ruined my hair by making it extremely frizzy, that was a waste since I didn't really need to in the end. It wasn't on soaking wet hair so less damage? Anyway, it was my only slip so I'm back to no heat. I don't know if I mentioned this before but I'm no longer flat-ironing on freshly relaxed hair. I did on my last visit but it just confirmed that I really just don't like my hair flat-ironed after a relaxer or at all...

Still no heat! Yay! I tried stretching/air drying in braids and then did a tnc. My hair was so stretched out my hair looked completely different than if I had just did a tnc on damp then air dried hair.

I'm still heat free and lovin' it! My hair is thriving and I may finally come out of APL-BSL land.
