I'm joining. I flat ironed for Christmas to mark one year relaxed free and to do a length check. I'm somewhere btwn neck length and shoulder length. I experienced major heat damage so i won't use heat for at least a year or more.

Thx OP

Sounds like a great idea. I'm currently APL, but lately I've been having alot of breakage and shedding partly due to flat ironing and lack of moisture. I don't want to lose my length nor thickness so this pledge would be great...

Ok I flat iron on the 23rd...I realize that I hadn't gain that much length since I flat iron my hair in Dec (due to my trimming addiction:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:)

I will not be using direct heat anymore until I'm WL! I do plan to try to rollerset so I hope that's not considered direct heat. :look:

i thought i was the only one with a trimming addiction:look::look:

my folks are thinking of having me committed

i need to see someone's length that BC'd everything OFF Febuary 2010

to see where a nicc should be
:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

roller set is indirect heat actually

:lachen::lachen::lachen:... I've been at around APL for too long! I had to hide the scissors from myself!

I hope I'm able to achieve the roller set on natural hair thing too.

Hmmm.... I'm about mid-neck now (shortest length), hoping for APL by the end of the year. I flat ironed once already for the year but was planning to go at least six months without it (which is up in June, pointless flat ironing in the summer.) Heck , I'll do it. Till January next year, no blow drying or flat ironing! I will silk wrap to get it straight!

i'm still 100% no heat so far

anyone ever used foil to apply low heat? or that foil (on wet conditioner) method w/ a flat iron?

YouTube - Flat Ironing with Aluminum Foil
I remember seeing a video from MopTopMaven doing this too. I might try this one day when I have more length. My hair loves moisture but I don't think I need to worry about it yet. Plus, my mom would want to know where all the aluminum foil has gone. :look:
In MopTopMaven's video she didn't actually straighten her hair with the flat iron. This is how I would do it; I'm too scared I would end up creating bubbles in the hair shaft otherwise. Quick Tip #1 Xtreme Deep Conditioning Video

I made a personal challenge to not straighten my hair until I am past APL (just making sure I don't fall short).

My former hairdresser used to do this to my hair. It conditions like no other. I was just thinking last night to see if anyone knew how to do it. Thanks for the link.

ETA: I want to make the pledge too. No heat, except for this conditioning method once every 3 months, until July (HL w/ trim).

UPDATE: Decided to update since no one else is really. :look: Picture update when I relax.

My 4 month stretch ends in 6 days, I'm trying to stretch for at least 5 months and may extend it further to push myself. Still no heat because I'm in this challenge and I don't want unnecessary breakage I could have avoided. The only time heat will touch my hair is when I go to the hairdresser to relax when she styles it so you already know that's only going to be 3 times this year for 2011 for the most if I can't succeed in stretching. I'm trying to not manipulate my hair and use oil to detangle on wash days to remain successful. I'm thinking that I might have to start wearing my hair in a bun but I'm reluctant.

Two new things; I've joined another challenge, not for length but for maintenance — 2011 Ceramide Challenge. This sudden ceramide craze is the first bandwagon I'm officially becoming apart of but the benefits seem great and it's an inexpensive one if you don't go all out so I don't mind. I've also decided to pre-poo my edges and nape to give them some extra care, I don't know how long I'll be doing this but I don't plan to stop anytime soon. I'm using a molasses-oil-conditioner mixture that I've seen results with already in only two uses — more manageable and softer edges. I'm really happy and optimistic, can't wait to see the results after long term use. I'm thinking of taking some pictures for a before and after reveal to share on LHCF to help out other people who have trouble with their edges but I'm not sure yet. We'll see. :scratchch

I'm still with this pledge and righting the urge to straighten (even with people trying to convince me to left and right). I'm a bit further along than I had initially believed. I'm not ear length I'm more like mid-neck closing in on shoulder length. Maybe my goal isn't as ambitious as I originally believed. So I'm expecting apl by the summer (early). My hair grows fast (speaking victory over it...I've been reading NJoys blogs and she gave me that idea). I'll length check in June and post my results! Boo heat! Lol

dayuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum that fast! put me on your growth plan
you must be taking that infinity plus plus plus vitamins!:grin::grin:

Lol! I really think I just misjudged before by saying I was ear length. I was closer to nl. Aside from cowashing every other day I use mtg (sulfur challenge) and msm supplements. I've never measured my growth monthly so I don't know whether this is my normal.

I'm still 2" from full shoulder length. Come on June...
Still heat free. Stretching hair after washing in two buns until dry. Want some kinky twists just to help me leave it alone...

UPDATE: I will be relaxing tomorrow, hope I get some great growth! I can't stretch like I wanted to because my hairdresser's salon will be doing renovations soon. Anyway, this will be the only time heat will be used on my head.

I am in on this personal challenge...I haven't used direct heat on my hair since December 2009 anyway...I did a 2nd BC in Sept 2010 so I want my 7-8 inches back and believe I have about 1/2 of it back lol.

I am not using heat until 12/2012 when I straighten my hair for Christmas again...

I'm so glad this got bumped. I'm definitely still in. Just needed to bookmark the thread. Not planning to flat iron until my birthday in June. I'm not good at flat ironing anyway so...

wow... didn't even know u were relaxed
lol.. good luck 2morrow

what type of relaxer will u be using?

Oh I know, my signature and the fact that I post in natural hair threads misleads people. The signature is just a reminder and I just love natural hair.

My hairdresser is going to be using Optimum.

UPDATE: Got my relaxer today after being 4 months post, planned to go longer but like I said, my hairdresser is doing renovations soon. Anyway, I just hit BSB but layered, I don't mind it because it'll grow out over time. Here's a picture to show my new bangs that was inspired by the Chanel Iman picture in my blog post here on LHCF. Length picture for my next update for sure since I plan to wash my hair in 3-4 days. I hope to stretch for 5 or possibly 6 months for my next update, we'll see — baby steps! No more heat until my next visit, trying to go hard. :look:

Don't mind my face I like being silly. :look: :lachen: Oh and I was on the phone with a friend since he wanted me to show him my new bangs so I was trying to talk while talking the photograph. :look:

so tickled ur on the phonE!!

looks great... any pics of the back?

LOL, yeah he was bugging me to make a "camwh*re" picture to put up on Facebook, so I was like, "Wait! I gotta pose!"

Pictures of the back when I wash since it shows the length better (since the ends are not bent under by the round brush) and so it isn't as limp.

Your bangs look cute! Really wipsy and light.

Thanks! I want to buy some wax or clay for them to kind of get them to be styled and what not. I don't use any product in my hair so this is going to be a challenge. I'll probably just buy Garnier Fructis on sale or something if I don't feel like researching. First time I got bangs and I liked them/really excited; I'm always carrying a picture when I want to cut my hair now.
