What is the difference between ceramic dryers/flat irons and the "others"... Is there some benefit to using one vs the other?

I wonder this myself. I have both ceramics and my old gold and hot flat irons. I love my gold and hots. Nothing gets my hair straighter. I paid a lot for my cermaics and they do not get my hair as straight as the gold and hots. So I do not know. lol

Well not too sure myself, I just got a hand held dryer that says it is ceramic and has tourmaline (some type of gemstone). on the side of the box it says:
"TOURMALINE CERAMIC HEAT TECHNOLOGY will
