My friend has had kemo im recently and her hair is falling does anyone have any advice that i can give her???:(

I'm so sorry that she is going through this :rosebud:
After the chemo her hair will grow back, let her know that the hair that grows back may be very different in color & texture. In the meantime, now she can experiment with different wigs and see what types of styles she may like to try when her hair does grow back. I will send up prayer for your friend :)

I agree w/prev post. There are beautiful scarves as well. I have to find a site I was looking a couple mnths ago that has a lot of accessories for cancer patients w/hair loss. www.headcovers.com and tenderheaded.com

Just be there for her. As you know she is going to have good days and bads days because of the therapy. Just be a friend/sister/support to her. Give her your love and pray w/her for strength.

I had a friend who went thru the same thing and she got a very cute short short hair cut so she could see her hair like it was growing instead of seeing falling out. She started taking care of it and now her hair is NL,full and pretty:p

hi thanx for you advice may i have your password to look at your website, your hair is so beautiful would like to learn your secrets.x

When my grandmother lost all of hair to chemo, me and my sisters bought her wigs similar to her real hair. She looked really cute. Be your friend's cheerleader and just keep reminding her that its just hair and it will grow back.:)

Yes, her hair will grow back. Unfortunately this is a side effect of chemo. If she doesn't like wigs (as they are hot and some unnatural looking) so with the scarves. There are plenty of sites to find different ways to wear the scarf.

My advice is not to actually buy a scarf but go to a fabric store and pick out the various colors and fabrics she wants and have them cut it for her. This is a lot cheaper then purchasing scarves and you get EXACTLY what you want. She can get dressy fabric for dress up occassions and she can get casual fabric for jean time, etc. . .

HTH

I pray that she is healed and that it does not break her spirit. When her hair starts to grow back, motowngirl.com was a great resource when I started off with a teeny weeny afro. growafrolonghair.com has a great technique called the crown and glory that was great when i started from scratch. wigs are also great ways to experiment and leave the hair alone while she is recovering. make sure the wig's elastic is not too tight around her hairline and nape 'cause that can cause too much stress and may lead to breakage or thinning.

again, i pray for her recovery. God bless her.

I had chemo at 14 and my hair fell out. It will grow back. Just tell her to make sure she is eating enough/healthy because sometimes the meds will take your appetite away.

Good luck to her.

This pretty much sums up everthing I wanted to say. My moms hair grew back like a baby and it stayed that way. It was real soft and fine.

Invest in a good juicer. Fresh juice w/help with her energy and nurishment when she doesnt have an appetite. IMO (based on prior research) Wheat grass is excellent antioxidant and helps fight cancer.

@bold. My friends hair did the same thing. Her hair went from I guess what would be a 4a/b to a 3a, 2bish looking. *I'm not good w/the hair typing thing*.

thank u but cud you tell me what the website is for the ways on how to tie a head scarf that are fashionable

Everybody I know who ever had chemo had the same texture change when they're hair grew back. I wonder what causes that change.

I don't have any advice. I just want your friend to know that I'm praying for her and wish her a speedy recovery.

I met a white woman with extremely beautiful type 3c corkscrew curls. Being the LHCFer that I am I just had to tell her how beautiful her hair was:lol: . She thanked me and then told me that all of her life she had pin straight hair, after getting cancer and going through chemo her hair texture changed drastically. She told me this was because the cancer completely restructure/alter your DNA. I've met AA cancer survivors who have told me the same thing, they went from having kinky hair prior to the disease to having a completely different texture after.

I really don't have much advice but I do hope for the best for your friend during this trying period in her life.
