Can this grow hair

If I was to get a wash and set and then keep my hair in the doobie wrap from the time I left the salon until my next weekly visit, would the hair grow? Hair would receive moisture through lets say a curl activator spray that would be sprayed on the wrap. Deep conditioning would take place weekly. What do you guys think.

I would say yes, but you have to comb it down periodically, I use to do this alot and my hair grow, more than it did when my hair was down, but I dont consider that a style to be wearin in the streets like that

I'm actually going to try this idea also. I go to dominican hairdresser on Church Ave. Can you comb your hair when you put the moisturizer in. Doesn't it make the hair stiff?

Anjel, you crack me up when you say this isn't a style that should be worn out in the streets. I actually know a girl who wore it as her daily style; she got it set and didn't touch it at all. I think she thought of it as a type of beehive.

And yes, her hair grew long due to little manipulation.

Hi!
I assume that u are going to the Dominicans since u live in Brooklyn and u said that u are getting a weekly doobie. I use to do this on and off consistently and my hair grew, but the thing is i like to use my own products now that I have found this board. I LOVE Dominicans, but I am very anal about my hair and I like to have a certain leave in and conditioner when I go to them, I say this b.c most of them use cheap products. The only Dominican spot that I know of that uses salon brand, not watered down cheap shampoo ( I know what they use b.c I oberve everything and smell what they are using)is Lopez on Eastern Parkway. The problem is, its like a madhouse in there ! But they use the best products and the texture of my hair looks shiney smooth and EXTRA silky when I leave. The last time I went, they washed with Creme of Nature shampo and Nexuss Therape, I bought my own conditioner, for leave in they used something by Sebastian and some other salon brand, and for the finishing touch they used Keracare glossifier for my doobie wrap. I know a lot of girls that go weekly or bi monthly for a wash and set and they have thick long flowing hair. If and when I ever want a really sleek wrap I would go to them. I think they use the best products.
Have u ever tried rinsing your hair at home and pulling it into a ponytail? I do this for about 2-4 weeks straight when I need a relaxer. I think my hair grew faster b/c my scalp was more clean. I cant really do that right now b/c I got a hair cut but soon enough I will be able to do my rinses again. It provides a lot of moisture to my hair. The major downside is the drying time and I have to be wary of head colds

Sounds like Im going to be keeping that hair in a wrap for weeks to come. I shouldve been at wait length too long ago but im constantly yanking out my hair. Im really pushing for that waist length this upcoming year.

Ditto on the little manipulation thing, but you should probably be careful with the continuous wrapping. A lot of people seem to have problems with thinning on one side when they wrap nightly (including myself when I was relaxed). One alternative might be to alternate the directions in which you wrap your hair.

You all make me jealous with all the talk about Dominican salons

We don't have any out here.

Britt, you even smell what they're using

Mezzinfuture, good luck with getting to waistlength, girl. I would love to see pics of your hair, but your picturetrail account has been phased out or something

Later on I'll try to find the pictures on the picture cd i used to put them up before. I forewarn you, those pictures were blurry. maybe by the end of the week, Ill try to take some pictures of my hair with my camers phone.

I have tried this on several occasions and found that it doesn't increase growth. The growth rate stays pretty much the same because you're supposed to moisturize the ends anyway whether they were wrapped or not.
