can i get a perm with color in my hair?

ive been natural for about 3 years now and i am ready for another perm. but the problem is...a little bit of my hair has color in it. will getting the perm make it break off? also, whats the difference between lye and no lye? thanks.

Yes, you can get a relaxer with color in your hair. Wait at least 4 weeks after you color it to relax or wait at least 2 weeks after you relax it to color it.

I'm not sure about lye/no lye. I know one gets your hair straighter than the other but it's also more drying.

It depends. If your hair was bleached or the color is lighter than your natural color. The colored part will break or melt into mush.
