^^^ I agree with her. Even though everyone gave great suggestions about the moisture and alkaline/acidity, her hair will be extremely fragile and most likely will break off anyway.
I learned this lesson from the "skool of hard knocks" too, no matter how well you treat it from here it'll eventually break especially when the new growth begins to sprout.
Once it's damaged there's no reversing it.
