I am moving back to Jacksonville, Fl in November. I haven't lived there in a good 20 years. Fill me in on the places to get a good Dominican Blowout, buy Dominican products, buy Indian Ayurveda hair oils and powders, and a stylist who believes in healthy hair practices. OMG I can't wait to move. Anyone live in Orange Park BTW?

Hi tnorenberg,

Welcome back to Jax. I've heard of maybe only one Dominican Salon in Jax and I think it is on the Westside. I don't know the name of it but I'll come back with the information. I have a friend that went and love the results. She did mention that they sold Dominican products there too. It funny you should ask about the indian store because I was just asking the lady that threads my eyebrows last week to recommend some stores. And she mentioned about 3 stores in the Baymeadows area in the Baymeadows Plaza and the Plaza across the street in the 2nd Plaza on Baymeadows.

As far a OP goes, I avoid that area due to the traffic. It's horrendous.

I've been in the Indian store in the Baymeadows plaza as well. I was upset cuz they didn't have my vatika oil. :nono:

I'm looking in the phone book and I only see one store in the Baymeadows area but two indian restaurants. I was told it was three. Maybe the restaurants have stores attached to them like some of the chinese restaurants I've seen but I'm not sure. I recently saw a store down Southside Blvd going north. Shilamari (sp) Grocery. It's pretty new to the area. It's near the Alpha Spa.

Ok, my friend said the salon is on Blanding Blvd which is near OP. She doesn't remember the name of it because it was over a year ago since she last went.

Thanks a lot. How disappointing about the indian stores. I will have to check that one out. Maybe OJ Park isn't the area I need to live in. So Fl has so many Indian and Dominican stores. I've been spoiled living down here.

Ohhh my gosh I live in jacksonville near the Town Center and I can not wait to leave.. Its so dead here... But I guess that how I feel being a Miami native....

There are two indan store located on Southside and Baymeadows that sell everything and they do not have it they will be more than happy to order it....

I live in Orange Park. I can recommend a hair dresser who doesn't do all we believe on LHCF but will do what you ask. She is good with roller wraps, roller sets and blow drying. The name of the shop is Divine Design located on 103rd street. Ask for Adrian 904-908-0312. I did go to an Indian store a few weeks ago on Baymeadows and Southside and picked up some Amla and vatika oils. Welcome back.

Hey Jacksonville ladies, I lived there for two and a half years. and actually i'm heading there tonight (tue) for about 5 days. Still have a sister who lives there. So, its good to see some of you that live there.

Thanks so much. Sot it seems that the only Indian shop is in Baymeadows. Wow. How do you like living in OJ Park? How is Fleming Island?

There are several Indian shops. I've only been to two. The one I liked the most was on Baymeadows. I'm also new to the Indian product thing. As for my thoughts about Orange Park; I think it is a great place to raise a family. Fleming Island is wonderful as is Oakleaf Villiage. I live in Oakleaf and they have recently built a mall which houses the only ULTA beauty store in Jacksonville. I'm originally from Chicago so Jacksonville is slow compared to Chicago. I didn't let my kids run outside without supervision when we lived up north. Now they hang out at the pool, tennis courts walk or ride bikes feely amongst the pine and palm trees. We love it here for family life.:trampolin
I would also like to add that Jacksonville is the least hit city on the coast for huricanes. Jacksonville hasn't been hit hard in fifty or sixty years.

I've been to two Dominican Salons. I recommend the one on Blanding in Orange Park its called Chisam ...because the one on the Southside just really wasn't hitting it for me.

I can't remember the name of it...but it sits off of Atlantic Blvd. I'd easily drive 30 minutes to Orange park, then go 10-15 min to this one.

Thanks, I'll have to give them a try. Sometimes I just want to be pampered.

Hi!

I've been in JAX about 6 months now...first I lived downtown now I live in Bartram. If you plan on having a work schedule that requires you to leave in the morning...I don't think that you will like the morning traffic you see coming from Orange Park (esp. if you're on HWY-17).

As far as salons...I'm still trying to find one that uses Phytospecific. There is a lot of fuss about Salon PK which is on Southside Blvd. I went there but wasn't really impressed about the way she did my hair...so I haven't been back. Of course the other 2 stylist could be different, but I'm still doing my own hair.

Hello all!

There's another UTLA Beauty Store at the St. Johns Town Center near Toys R Us.

As far as Dominican Salons go, there are several in the Jax metro area. Chisam on Blanding @ I-295 in the Pier 1 plaza is a great salon. I'm in and out in 2 hours for a rollerset. There is a Dominican salon located in Orange Park on Kingsley called Miqeulina's (sp?) Salon. There's also a salon off the Arlington Expressway. I don't know the name of it, but I've seen the Dominican flag in the salon's window. In the Regency area, there's a place called Regina's Dominican salon. I haven't been to the last three salons, therefore I cannot provide a review on them.

Anyone know of a good non-Dominican salon around Jax? I've heard of Salon PK, but the prices are kinda high. Has anyone ever been to Shear Essence on the Southside? I'm very curious about them.

I live in Mandarin. Bartram Park to be more specific. It's good to see so many LHCF members in the Jax area!

I don't know how I missed this thread. I'm Jacksonville (Arlington) and the only Indian store that I know is the one off Baymeadows (west of Phillips Hwy across the street from Winn Dixie). The owner is pretty cool so if you need something that they don't have, ask. They'll order it for you (they ordered Jamila Henna for me earlier this year):yep:

I've never been to a Dominican salon, I'll have to check them out.

I'm bumping this bc my hair needs help. I just moved here and kinda lost about the whole area.

nelcoy what are you needing? What side of town are you on?
I'm in Arlington near a mall. I'm completely natural and I was looking for a salon that really good at straightening natural hair. I don't care if it's Dominican salon, but I saw reviews for one in Jax and they charged $75. I'm use to NJ & Philly prices. I also need a trim bad.

Thanks :)

nelcoy Try C-wata on Rogero Rd in Arlington. I know it's a natural salon but I'm not sure about their prices.
