Okay, so I was lurking over on LHC and saw the video below. Now I'm dying to try this heatless curl technique http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAPHSAPshJE

I thought it would be great if a few people tried it so we could see how it works on different textures and lengths of hair. If you decide to participate in this experiment please do the following:

1> post pics of your hair cocoons and the resulting curls.

2> If you use styling products please detail what you used and how you used it.

3> Mention your hair type and current hair state ie, natural, relaxed, straight natural, texlaxed, or transitioning

I'm excited to see everyone results!

I'm too scared to try on my head. That seems like a purposeful tangle for my texture!
 
Oh wow, I've never seen anything like that before. I don't like the way that little cocoon looks though. It seems like one false move and you'd have a huge knot. You'd probably already have to have straightened hair to do that and not mind flat hair at the top.

I do something similar to this for my mom's locs. I saw chescalocs from YT do it. Her locs came out really curly :yep: Here's the video http://youtu.be/KiqFpzSPoLk

I'm scared to try this on my natural hair. I'll give it a shot and try to remember to post pics.
 
I just washed and I'm now dcing. I will do this on my airdried hair. I love bantu knot outs, but they never come out right on me. This way I can get a similar look.:grin:
 
Someone on asked on youtube if they could start higher up and she said yes so the top doesn't have to be flat. I'm trying this on my natural hair tonight.

I've just finished my cocoon set. I tried taking it down immediately after doing the first cocoon. One tug on the tail and it just falls apart. No problem there. I spritzed my hair with water and instead of twisting it the way the girl in the video did I did a 2 strand twist then rolled up the cocoon.

I think adding the 2 strand twist to the mix will give me some waves at the top of the hair. I ended up doing 12 cocoons distributed around my head.

Hair Type/State: I'm 4b/natural

I can't wait to see what it looks like tomorrow. :nervous2:

Wow, this is an interesting method for curling. I look forward to seeing your results, ladies. The girl in the video has very pretty hair.

I'd try this if my hair was long enough.
 
That is fascinating. Who comes up with these things? :lol:

But very pretty. Can't wait to see some of your results. Her's came out very nicely.
 
This morning went well. I left the tails out of my cocoons so that they were easy to pull and the cocoons dropped with one tug. I unravelled the 2 strand twist that I used as my base, separated the one large curl into pieces and this is what I got:

So far, I like it. The cocoons don't put any tension on the root of the hair and are very easy to sleep on. I didn't feel a thing. I stuffed them inside my satin bonnet and went to sleep.

GreenEyedJen i was going to say the same thing. Lol. i'd be curious to see how it works for naturals. i'm guessing it would require some kind of blowout or straightening ahead of time
 
Interesting way to create curls. It's like she's bantu-knotting the ends. I may have to try this technique one day when I'm not in a lazy mood. :) Thanks for sharing kinkycurlygurl!

I thought it looked like a bantu knot on the ends of the hair too, I moved mine up higher and I love the result.
 
kinkycurlygurl your hair turned out very pretty :yep:. I think I will try it this weekend after I'm done with my curlformers set. If it turns out good then I'll try to post a pic.

leona2025 since your hair is so long, all you should do is 2-4 big bantu knots. That's what I did when my hair was longer. When I did a lot, my just looked stupid-crazy
