I've been bunning for a while not and I've noticed my hair line getting thinner. I dont pull too tight:ohwell:

I have to brush to bun and noticed my hair line getting thinner as well when I tried it. Maybe alternate bunning w/another protective style.

how long have u been bunning?

Great question! Now I'm curious. The longest I bunned was for 4 months straight, I never received any breakage, but then again it was only for a few months. Please do tell OP, how long have you been bunning?

Yep, it has definitely thinned my temples.
I don't use a brush, and i don't pull too tight.
I do notice that as the day progresses, my bun gets tighter, and i have to loosen and re-juice it.

I'm working on regrowing it now.
*sigh*

...I do notice that as the day progresses, my bun gets tighter ...

I used to have a similar problem. Now I don't bun while my hair is soaking wet since it shrinks as it dries. I let my hair dry a bit before I bun and this has reduced the pulling. Also, I change my part occasionally so I don't over stress one section and loosen the bun as soon as I get home to massage my edges.

Hmm, this is a timely thread. I've noticed my hairline getting a little scarce and I'm thinking about switching back to wigs. I don't pull too tightly and I use hair pins to secure.

I do however tend to sleep in the buns and maybe that's the culprit. Maybe if I too the bun down and plaited the hair each night, I wouldn't have an issue.

I think once my wigs get here, I'll go back to putting my hair in 2 french braids to give it a break from bunning.

It depends how you make your buns.. I aways wear a middle part with my sides combed down then to the back... That work great for me

I sometimes do a part and braid the sides down and tucked behind my ear. This cause less stress on the edges.

I rarely use a bristle brush on wet hair to do my buns. I just smooth with my hands and twist the hair around my finger to form a bun then secure with a spin pin.

I think so but I wear wigs so I don't know if bunning is the culprit or if the wig cap is to blame. But I'm glad you are talking about it.

Yes, this is what I do, too.

I part my hairline first, twist it down, then draw the rest into a bun. The two hairline-twists are long enough to meet each other in the back of my head or on top of my head, where they are secured down with bobbypins. Here is what I look like today:

I have noticed this I thought that it may be because I weren't moisturising them properly.

Is that a braidout in your signature or just let down from your bun? Anyway your hair is beautiful.
