Bunning and no heat, basically giving your hair a rest, really IS the business

It truly is the business i promise:)

I did a personal 30 day bun/up do/no heat challenge. I made it to 28 days but needed to flatiron due to attending my daughters recital so didn't make it for the last 2 days.

Anyway, when I flatironed my hair the thickness was incredible and i'm sure i've retained just about all that i've grown in 30 days.

Unfortunately I don't have an exact before shot, but, here's a pic I took in the last 30-40 days (i think):

Here are pics I took tonight:

I have learned from this that my hair is not ok w/ frequent heat usage. I know it's great for some, but really it's not for me. I will be back to my no heat regimen for another 30 days starting maybe at the end of next week. At least now I can use these photos that I took tonight to gauge any progress that I will get. It will be time for my touch up after a 12 week stretch in about 30 days too so those pics will be interesting.

You hair is so pretty. I pretty much follow the same rule 24/7 because my hair REVOLTS if I use too much heat. I only flat iron or blow dry every 3-4 months. In the meantime I wear buns, ponytails, french braids, braid outs and half wigs. My hair thanks me.

Funny, I was going to write something similar to this. What you say is the truth! Basically, I've been using CurlFormers to relax the natural curl and then let it air dry. My hair comes out shiny and straighter, and then I put my hair in a fabulous bun.

ITA! Your hair looks beautiful! I have been doing this for about 3.5 weeks since I officially decided to transition and plan to do this throughout my transition. I am going to buy the curlformers to get me through the holiday season!

your hair looks great:yep:...Im starting to use heat every 2 weeks. So far nothing bad has happened *crosses fingers*. But during that 2 weeks I dont use heat at all to rebump the ends or go over the roots. if my hair starts to frizz out a bit I just put it in a bun until I go back to get it done again.

I totally agree. I did that almost all summer and it was my best growth period I have had since I have been here. I am doing something like that now as I try to regain some of my elasticity and so far so good. I actually just got finished doing a protein treatment. I have it in a bun now for it to dry overnight.

I know! She looks just like you - can't deny her! I wear a bun every day all day. Girl, I'm retaining pretty much all of my growth!

This girl DOES NOT look like me. I really don't see it. I tell her all the time that her real mom left her on my doorstep. She didn't seem to impressed or bothered :look: :lachen:

Thanks for the compliments ladies. This whole bunning thing really is the truth. I was suprised at the wonderful state my hair was in after I flatironed. No heat for minimum 30 days is the way for me :yep:

You must be blind!!!

You spit that child out! :lachen::lachen::lachen:

you are blind...she looks EXACTLY like you. You sound like a delusional twin  Identical as they come but swear up and down they dont look alike.

fab, your hair is GORGEOUS!!!!!!
and you're right. i've noticed that blow-drying my hair 1x a week was doing a lot more harm than good. i've still got plenty a-ways to go, but my hair is getting thicker now that i air-dry / roller set.

chile...she is yo twin!! and ur hair grew alot!! it looks great!

I love this, it looks great, and I'm hard to impress. I like your color as well. Were the curls done with rollers? Over the summer, from mid May to the end of Aug, I used heat a total of two times and did low mani styles (twistouts and buns) to work when I was interning in NC. Man, it does work, I think my hair reacts better with limited heat as opposed to often like I used to do. My hair flourished.

p.s. your little one is too precious. dang.

Thanks Nichi :)

The color is my natural color which really is just plain old dark brown. I think the flash just lit it up in a way that gives it a reddish tint.

The curls were done with some orange and red flexirods.

I can only imagine the wonderful progress I would have with such a long stretch (may to august) with only using heat twice. Your hair is GORGEOUS by the way :yep: I can't wait until my hair has more length because I will have even more styles to chose from that won't require heat.

Thanks for the compliment on my daughter :)

OP, stop fooling yourself, that girl is a shrunken Fabulousity! Your hair looks wonderful - so light and fluffy!!! My hair riots with excessive direct heat - and by excessive I mean once a month. There are definitely major benefits to be reaped with less heat and lo-mani.

Fab, your hair looks so lush & shiny, great job! I gave up on heat in Sept. and decided not to straighten anymore this year.

Your daughter looks so cute. I'm sure your pictures at her age look just alike.

After reading your thread, you have motivated me to stop using heat for a 30 days. Let's see.

re: Your little one is just a mini you.

I have been a baad girl and now my hair is paying for it. So like you, I have started my own personal challenge until the end of December with no blow fryer and flat iron.

Good job!

I can totally relate. I've worn bun (sans heat) most of the year and managed to keep almost all of my growth. Unfortunately, I had a little set back this summer after a trim turned into a haircut. But I've gained the length back. I'll likely be bunning without heat or chemicals until I give birth in March....maybe longer.

NO DNA needed for the baby..

Thanks for the info, I will try a bunning challenge for myself... What do you use to moisturize?
