Bun Challenge

I'm in! I usually wear phony ponys but I only wash my hair on Saturday morning but I may start washing and dc'ing 2x a week but what is the benefit of that?

Count me in for the Bun Challenge 95% of the time for a year! I get a past for special occasions (birthdays, holidays, formal functions) and the relaxer day. :yep:

365 days - 5% = 18.25 days of down hair time.

I'm in! I was going to start this challenge in November, glad to know other people think like me! I want to reach MB by December 08, so I'll bun until I reach that goal.

I'd like to join this challenge..
I used to bun 95% of the time then I became bored with bunning so I recently began alternating between bunning and braidouts.. Every now and then I look at babygurl fotki to keep myself inspired about reaching my goal of MBL...

I've already cheated today - this morning I had nice bun waves so left my hair down. It's going back in the bun tomorrow though.

My hair isn't long enough for buns yet, so I gotta get me one of those phony buns. :yep: I wear my hair clipped up in a little clamp pretty much every day anyway, so I might as well cover it w/ a bun and keep my ends moisturized. Gonna try to make it til twelve weeks post, which puts me at December 7th. :)

I would love to join this challenge! I've just recently started experimenting with different types of buns. I do have two concerns, though.

1. Do we get any passes to wear our hair down? Like, a special occasion or something? If so, how many or how often?

2. Can people maybe post some fotkis or pictures of different types of buns so people in the challenge can still have some VaRiEtY? :yep:

I'm in! I plan on wiggin' it for when the bun becomes too routine and I start feeling sooooo... ya know

Count me in too. I am experimenting on how to get my bun to stay and look neat.:perplexed I will officially start in November! Like others I may need some days off for special occasions. But I am determined to get some length

So you guys are bunning without using one of those donut things or the sock bun thing? Hummm I might have to get in on this. I used to bun with the sock bun but it broke my ends, even when I covered it with saran wrap. But I don't like the look of my bun with my hair without a filler. Might have to start practicing but I love the idea of washing and dcin'g 2x a week and wearing buns.

I ripped open a baggy and twist that around my ponytail twice (like a ponytail holder). That's how I make my bun.

I would like to join and I will try to stay consistent. I'm using up my last days of being able to wear a curly rollerset before my new growth really starts to grow in. After that it'll be buns and updos.

I'm in! I've been wearing my hair up during the week and down on the weekends. I'm going to try and keep it in a bun more but I'll be wearing it down the end of this month (my birthday), for Thanksgiving and Christmas - is that too much??? I hope not. I'm going to co-wash on Tuesdays and Thursdays since I plan on doing cardio at the gym on those days, on Friday or Saturday I'll do a full wash and DC. I'm also going to start back using my growth stuff.

I hope I can stay consistent with this.

Count me in, please! I'm stretching till December, hoping to make APL and this newgrowth doesn't allow me to wear my hair down anyway.:lachen: Are there any nice bun tutorials? And is my hair long enough to use the magic bun by Scrunci? I might make a trip to pick one up if so. :)
~*Janelle~*
P.S
How will you wear your hair to bed at night out of the bun?

I know I'm kinda late in that game for a challenge, but I was looking at Babygurls album, http://public.fotki.com/BabygurlNC/ , and I am soooo inspired by the amount of length she retained and I have decided to start my own bun challenge. Anyone out there wanting to join in. Today will be my start date, but my end date will be when my hair gets to the length I want it. I will do an update picture every couple on months to show my progress. I am going to wash and deep condition every 3 days faithfully and then its back to the bun. Wish me luck!!!

Picture of my new bun.LOL!!!

I'm in...I too am inspired by babygurl's progress.

I need to stock up on some head bands :yep:...

I just wanted to say that Im so happy to be inspiration for anyone, growing my hair was a long journey full of bumps and bruises but I made it and you all will make it to. Buns were absolutely the way I was able to RETAIN my growth, I cant say it works for everyone but it worked for me in keeping my ends protected and healthy, no trims needed. If any of you ladies every have any questions whatsoever, feel free to PM me, Im always here even though I may not always post. I do appreciate it though, and dont hesitate to contact me!

Count me in. Here's what I plan to do:

My REGIMEN:
1) cowash and deep condition every tuesday and friday (2x per week)
2) baggy under my bun
3) switch the bun to different parts of my head to avoid breakage
4) soak the ponytail holders in oil to prevent breakage

STYLES (some of these have tutorials :lick:):
Here are some cute buns...just to switch it up (I bunned before and it can get so boring...but it really helped me retain length and thickeness in the past...so here I am again...but this time with LOTS OF STYLES)!:

aw....ain't she sweet y'all...lol.

I'm in as well. Ironically, my SO is the one who suggested wearing a bun (and some librarian glasses)...LOL...so I've been doing it for about two weeks now...at first I was in awwe of my "bun waves" but I had my hands in my heir to much for that so I know I need to leave it up.

I'll bun for 6 months. So what is the start date and end date?

When are you ladies bunning? Do you ponytail and then bun or bun without a ponytail using hair pins. I have been bunning on wet hair, but I think i will let my hair dry half way and then bun because I see too many hairs on my hands when I am applying my moisturizers and smoothing my hair. I put my hair in a ponytail first and then bun.

I've been bunning straight for more than a week now. It is the easiest style for my lo main regimen. At the start of my journey I bunned using ponytails but, I find I did get some breakage that way but then again maybe the buns were to tight. I now just moisturise and seal, take my hair and twist it around and around, wrap it around itself, then secure it loosely with a scrunchie or hair pins. Sometimes when I take the scrunchie down I see long hairs and not broken ones so just natural shedding. I am now doing whatever it takes to get no breakage and the most growth retention.

Here's one of my buns. I wore this one all of last week. May hair is gathered in a scunci, braided and tucked in a baggie. My concern is that I'm going to start seeing some breakage where the scunci is even though the scunci says its suppose to prevent damage and how damp is my hair suppose to be when I take the baggie off??? Anywho, here's an attached pic.

P.S. My hubby said he likes it when it sits down low because up high I look like a conehead - ahhh the love, that's my bookie!!!

Im still debating on whether I can commit or not...:lachen:...

texas, your bun looks good! It matches your hair! The problem with the one I had was it just looked too shiny and wiggy so I never wore it!
