Britains Witch Children

Did anyone watch the C4 documentary Britain's Witch Children?

Here is the synopsis and the links to the video:

Dispatches goes undercover in some African churches in the UK, where evangelical pastors perpetuate a strong belief in witchcraft. They preach that some people are possessed by evil spirits, and that these spirits bring bad luck into the lives of others.

The only way to rid the possessed from the witchcraft spell and lift their curse is to 'deliver' them: a kind of exorcism that can be very traumatic. Some pastors charge significant sums of money to perform these deliverances.

Often it is children who are denounced as witches by these pastors, and this labelling can lead to the physical and emotional abuse of those children at the hands of their families. In extreme cases it has led to the deaths of some children.

In parts of Africa, branding a child a witch is now outlawed, but in Britain this practise is perfectly legal, despite the fact it can have horrific consequences.

Dispatches reveals just what goes on behind closed doors in these African churches, exposing the pastors who exploit the religious beliefs of the most vulnerable.

You can watch the video here. If you are not able to view the Channel 4 website from your location you can try Youtube or Metacafe.

What do you think about the practice of deliverance? Do you believe that it still exists? What do you think about the documentary/investigation as a whole and do you think that this issue needed to be exposed. Lets Discuss.

BTW I posted the video in the Christian forum as I want this to remain a Christian discussion.

It wont let me view it for copyright reasons.

But I do remember an instance in my hometown where a pastor had decided that a young boy (5 yr) had a demon that was causing his autism. One of the ways they tried to exercise the demon was by laying on top of the boy as he struggled. They killed him. It was a Horrible tragedy and smeared the name of Christ.

I do believe that demons exists and can torture people. But if you notice in the Bible, Jesus and the Apostles exercised demons by speaking (after being fasted and prayed up). So all the other dramatics of physical harm are simply that...dramatics. I dont think demon possession is NEARLY as common as people make it out to be. And it is a dangerous practice to label someone a witch.

All in All I would say that when/if you encounter someone demon possessed it will extremely apparant to all that are spiritually discerning and should be a (free) service of words (outlined in the Bible) to exercise it.

I did watch the programme was felt really sorry for the people involved because they were being swindled hardcore because of these people who are using someones faith to manipulate a situation for money. It was really sad.

I think there are cases of actual demonic possession but that it needs to be investigated and that could be a lengthy process. Of course, I'm not protestant so the process is diff. But I've seen exorcisms held in a church. I'm not discounting that people can be oppressed or even possessed by evil spirits or demons, but this thing is pure nonsense, imho. Children in some African countries are being condemned to death or condemned to a life of singlehood and other unfortunate marginalization because some one person declared them "unlucky" for the rest of society. Those with albinism are also included. It's evil, in and of itself, and I cannot believe Black people would be so darned stupid to promote this. What would make someone that ignorant is beyond me. Ulterior motive? Of course, the one who collects the monies...but ulterior motives in those parents, step-parents, neighbors harboring resentment? I can't believe that one person is truly "innocent" mentally for believing this crap. Christ frees, not enslaves. Incredible.
