BREAKAGE UGGGGHHHHH!!!

I am experiencing breakage all around the perimeter of my hair, none toward the crown. I am relaxed and wrap every night. Am wondering if I'm wrapping to tight or if my hair in that area is not moisturized. I am at my wits end, the hair that's not breaking is very healthy. Any pointers would be helpful. Btw I wash my hair, blow dry (with some airdrying) and flatiron once a week, would like to go longer but I am a walker and can't stand to smell sweaty hair.

Do you moisturize your perimeter often? Also are you using a cotton or satin/silk scarf to wrap your hair at night?

To wrap I use a wig cap first then a doorag. I really don't know what moisturizer I need to use but am open to suggestions. I just want this breakage to stop. Am also wondering if there is another way to wear my hair straight without having to wrap.

It could be the wrapping and/or the scarf. Try cross wrapping. There are youtube tutorial on this: cross wrapping hair
you can use Elasta QP mango Butter and a mix of oils including Castor oil to moisturize and seal.

You might wanna try rollersetting? Then you might be able to skip on of the heat steps, because blow drying as well as the flat iron might be taking a toll.
good luck! :)

Is the wig cap satin/silk? If not it's likely to be robbing the moisture from your hair

I wondered about that to but I don't have breakage anywhere else but the perimeter of my hair. I think my wig cag may be to tight and I need to moisturize that section but I just don't know.

My right side temple area was slightly thinner than my left from years of wrapping. I started cross wrapping and the right thickened up. I no longer wrap at all and it's doing much better. Still not as thick as the left because I'm a right side sleeper (or that's my assumption as to why) but it vastly improved since stopping traditional wrapping. Try rubbing with some jbco; that also helped mine area.

What do you all think of a egg, honey and olive oil conditioning treatment as a pre poo of deep conditioner? I have some mixed up right now.

That is a protein treatment, which should be good. Like it was suggested doing a cross wrap or pin curling and using a satin bonnet (turned inside out so the seems don't get caught on the hair. As for moisturizers, since you are wearing your hair straight, look for the first ingredient to be an oil followed by water. I hope everything works out for you.

Get some Profectiv and a silk or satin pillow case and pin your hair up loosely for night. Wraps are notorious for creating breakage on one side or direction unless you change it up.

Also, the conditioner is fine. I just bought a jar of it for 12 bucks at the Indian mart...I could have made it at home like, what was I thinking? LOL. Try it.

What material is the wig cap? If it's one of the nylon ones, that could be the reason for the breakage. Those wig caps sucked the moisture out of my hair.

Yes it is nylon, those are the only ones I've seen. I would like to find something else that doesn't dry my hair around my edges.

There's something your hair isn't liking. You just have to use the process of elimination. Thats what I did to figure out why I wasn't retaining and I found the cause.

Im natural but I only wear my hair straight. I used to have an issue with tenderness at my temple and severe shedding on the side that was wrapped in the opposite direction but it stopped when I started wrapping looser then putting on one of those mesh wraps you get at the bss. Then I put a satin bonnet over it and pull it down as far as possible. I also keep the edges moisturized. Doing it this way I also found that my nape grew out which has always been an issue for me. I think the tension that some scarves put on the edges is what causes breakage and not the flat ironing. I used to do it weekly with no problem.

Yea I'm pretty sure you don't need to tie your hair down super tight to have a nice wrap.

My edges are sensitive, my hair is very fine and not as dense there. I stopped wrapping because of soreness around my temples, plus after the first week after a TU wrapping is pointless since I don't rollerset or use heat. Loose buns and pin-curls give me nice results.

I once wore a wig daily for only two weeks and the wig cap wreaked havoc on my edges. I've seen a difference using a 100% silk scarf instead of a satin one, plus rubbing castor oil on my edges, they're thickening up nicely.

What did you use to moisturize that area. Thinking about picking up some One n Only Arcane oil. I know that oil is not a moisturizer but should help.

I use Elasta QP recovery. Contains mineral oil but I could care less because its the best moisturizer I have ever used.

Ok, I bought one of those net things, a satin bonnet , a satin scarf and some one n only argan oil treatment. Of course I won't be using the scarf and the bonnet together. Will give this a try and pray that the breakage stops.
