Hi All

Feeling a bit discouraged because my hair is still breaking, so i thought i'd do a poll. Basically would like to know how long it took before you noticed when your hair stopped breaking. Not sure if its been done already but nice to know all the same xxx

I always see some breakage! well once it has come from my head! I never can see where the breakage came from but when my hair sheds I see hairs that shed(white bulb on end of strand) mixed with shorter broken hairs. But if u look at me and my head u wouldn't know where it came from :lol:

I see hairs that have broken off in little puff balls in the shower drain:confused: but yet afterwards I still can't tell where they came from :)

therefore I just try not to worry about it and I just keep doing my deep conditioners(twice a week) and aphogee protein treatments (when needed) when I see more breakage than I want to see.;) hth!

oh to answer your question: I voted still breaking!..even though I still have a head full of hair! I don't get lots of breakage... but I still get some.

I also do notice more breakage the longer I stretch my relaxers... but I just keep my hair moisturized and sealed with oils.;)
 
I bascially had to cut off all the hair that was damaged beyond repair. It took exactly six months.
 
I got to the point where I was so disgusted with my breaking damaged hair that I chopped it all off one night. I went from a little past BSL to about APL. I hated to see so much hair go, but I was just sick of my hair literally snapping off each time I brushed it.

So the breakage stopped right away once I cut of the damaged parts and stopped using so much heat.
 
I would say my hair is in a pretty healthy state..... and I still get breakage. Such is the nature of very fine, thin hair. No matter what i do, its weak and more susceptible to breakage than if i had thicker hair. No, Im not getting a GREAT amount of breakge, like back in the day when i used to comb my hair and find all those little pieces on the back of my shirt. But i do get some short, broken pieces when i comb it, albeit gently.

To minimize my breakage: I simply dont comb when i dont need to. I try to comb only on wash day, when its wet. I wear my hair mainly in buns during the week, and wear it out on weekends. If i comb at all, its once in the morning and thats IT.

I avoid most breakage this way! :)

Ditto, I still get breakage even though I don't have fine (or really thick) hair, I know that it is a normal part of hair.

There will never be a time where you are 100% free of breakage (or shedding). It's not possible. But you can decrease breakage drastically by doing everything 'right' and giving your hair the proper things that it wants and needs. There are some strands that no matter what you do, ya just can't save. And that is okay! It's not okay when the breakage is in abundance. Once you free your hair of unhealthy breakage (finding out the culprit), you will learn what is a lot of breakage for you and what is not.

I agree with this and I voted still breaking because I think it's impossible to be 100% breakage free.
 
I still have breakage although I have only started taking care of my hair since September of 2006, so thats only about 4 months. I have already started seeing less breakage but I've pretty much stopped combing my hair except on wash days. I used to have a problem area of my hair that would grow then snap off as soon as I got a relaxer. This section of my hair is now almost the same length as the rest of the healthy hair (although I did chop off about 3 inches to help to even things out). Overall I feel that the health of my hair is improving. I am able to respond to my hair when I see that it needs something. For example, when I see that it is feeling oily and brittle I know that it needs water so I will wash it even if I have to wash every 2 days or so. After relaxers my fine 4a hair gets weakened and needs alot of protein so I do protein treatments every week for the first 3 weeks after the relaxer, this has helped alot too. I am still learning but I realize that I will probably always get a little breakage even when my hair is super healthy.
 
I have only been on the healthy hair care journey for about 2 months, but I noticed LESS breakage about a month ago. I still get some breakage but not like I was before I found LHCF.
 
I don't think it's possible to completely eliminate breakage. I've seen a lot less breakage now that my hair stays in low/no manipulation styles. But it still happens. But the thing is I can't really notice any areas in my head that are suffering from breakage. So overall my hair is much healthier than it was this past summer.
 
Thankyou ladies, guess the key is not to obsess too much, its good to know that the old timers are still experiencing things us newbies might find off putting, keep the replies coming and maybe tips on how you reduced your breakage and how to tell when its bad bad breaking :) should change the poll to when you noticed less breaking ;)

Obessing over it will make you lose sight of the goal and cut rpematurely when it is not that much breakage.
 
I noticed less breakage when I started using ApHogee Intensive Keratin which was about a year into my program.

I used to have very severe breakage until I found LHCF in September 2006. My hair was extremely dry, split ends for days, and just a mess. That's how I found this forum. I was searching for remedies for hair breakage and you guys popped up. I learned about pre-poos, co-washes, and good quality products and how to use them. Now, instead of a comb loaded with my broken, damaged hair, I just get a few hairs, at the most. Sometimes none.
Now, my hair is growing, it's healthy, and life is good!

ITA with this! Everytime I get breakage, my nerves get bad, and I think I'm losing hair/sabotaging my hair goal. But some of this "breakage" is just shedding that gets "trapped" in my hair, since I'm not combing everyday, and of course, some if it is just inevitable breakage.

Still breaking...but not too upset about it :ohwell: My hair is in a pretty healthy state and it grows, but I still see pieces of hair after I brush it too. Not nearly as bad as when it was dry and damaged, but still...
 
I KNOW I USE CPR A LITTLE EVERY WEEK UNTIL IT STOP NOW I USE IT EVERY TWO WEEKS EVEN IN MY BRAIDS AND IT WORKS FOR ME:) :) I WISH YOU LUCK AND HOPE YOUR BREAKAGE STOP SOON AISO IKEEP IT MOISTURE
 
My hair has done a 180 in exactly a week. My hair was so dry, damaged and fragile, I thought there was no saving it. After finding LHCF, it's soft, shiny and bouncy. My DH can't stop complimenting me :D
 
i very rarely see breakage, im a person that likes to examine the shed hair for a blub, so i know for sure that the hair coming out is shedding not breaking.

Maybe this is the culprit. Brushing and my hair does NOT get along. So many other ladies including myself totally eliminated brushing out of our reggies. It's not good for my hair at all.
 
I naturally have very brittle hair that I must monitor carefully for breakage. I get the occasional piece of hair if I comb it without detangling(which I avoid), but I've had almost no breakage since I started using S-Curl about a year ago to keep it moisturized. That product is simply amazing. Breakage reduction was almost instantaneous, and has all but disappeared! :yep: My hair has thickened up considerably all the way to the tips so I don't have to trim.

I've always kept up with protein to keep my hair strong, but if my hair isn't very well-moisturized, I'm in big trouble! S-Curl is the Truth.
 
As soon as I started dc twice weekly my breakage ceased immediately.... it's literally on the rare occassion that I see breakage now. I see shed hairs but very minimal breakage...that is one reason why I'm confident that I will retain most (if not all) of the hair that grows out of my scalp this year. :D

CPR is really good, my hair was breaking really bad, I started using it and saw a big difference after a couple of uses, I stopped using after I noticed a difference but I think I will use it at least once a month. I starting trying ORS and henna. which has also made my hair stronger, it is a job trying to keep your hair health :lol:

Does S curl make your hair really curly if you are natural? I want to wear my hair in a style that I can wet 2-3 times a week, right now I rollerset, but I'm in Vegas and it's about to get hot soon, need another option.

When you see pieces of hair is that breakage or shedding? I always get the 2 mixed up :perplexed
 
Shed hair almost ALWAYS has a tiny white/clear bulb on the root end. Broken hair doesn't. Long hairs are usually sheds, short pieces of hair are usually broken.

My breakage has JUST stopped in the last two weeks or so - I attribute it to having finally figured out how to give my hair the moisture it NEEDS. I'm working on the moisture/protien balance now in my regimen - I'm really excited, as I'm almost POSITIVE that I've found my way to retain all my hair - and just in time, as I've just trimmed off the last of my color....
