Breakage and dryness

Hi,

I was wondering if this is the normal amount of shedding I should expect when combing my hair in the morning. You can't see it in the pictures, but there is like 2 or 3 tiny broken little strains. How do I correct this? Also I know the picture is kinda of blurry, but can you tell if I have split ends and if I need to trim now or can I wait until I get a fresh relaxer in April or May? Also my hair is kinda dry.

This doesn't seem like a lot to me either. There is no way to tell from your pictures whether you have split ends or not. Regarding the short hairs, what's your regime? Two or three short hairs is not horrible, but perhaps your regime can tell us whether you should make an adjustment or two - such as clarifying. Give us the 411;).

Shoot, I wish I only lost that much hair in the morning. My hair is shedding like crazy right about now.

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for your comments. There really is a big change in shedding since I totally stop using my blow dryer in October. I use to have hair all over which was the number one reason I never wanted to do anything with my hair. The problem is the little braking hairs. I'm getting more long hairs with the white bulb which I know is natural shedding. What I am worried about are the broken pieces.

This is my reggie. I just started this in January so before that I had no regular hair care routine.

Once a week I wash with Motions lavish conditioning shampoo. On Sunday and Wednesday I deep condition with one of the following conditioners (I rotate): ORS Replenish PAK, Queen Helene Cholesterol/Motions Silk Protein mix, Elasta QP DPR 11
I've Used Aphogee 2 minute Reconstructor 1 time and I love Smooth and Shine Silk Fusion (excellent).

I usually wear my hair in a ponytail or roller set. I use IC Fantasy gel on the front of my ponytail to smooth down. I don't use any heat at all. I moisturize twice a day with ORS oil moisturizer and I spray with 911 leave in conditioner. After this I smooth Elasta QP Mango butter over the hair and ends (is this sealing in the moisturizer?) I have never used a clarifying shampoo.

So what should I add or subtract? Is this a good regime?

you can use mango butter to seal in your moisturizer.

I think you should use a clarifying shampoo, once or twice a month to get ris of product buildup.

if you are using a no lye relaxer, you should use a chelating shampoo to remove mineral buildup from the no lye. that can cause dryness.

WHAT GIRL THAT IS NOTHING LOL:lachen: Your suppose to lose 50-100 hairs a day. You hair is so thick and nice looking.

You don't know the half of it. I never really cared about my hair before. It was just there and I just fluffed it now and then, but then I stumbled on this board and it changed my hair life. I use to get 3 large handfuls of hair everytime I blew dry and maybe 1 during regular combing.

Do I need to use both a clarifying and chelating shampoo? I do use a No Lye relaxer. Which do you suggest? What is the difference between clarifying and chelating?

Clarifying removes product buildup on the outside of the strand.

Chelating shampoo removes buildup from mineral deposits from using a no lye and deposits from hard water. It removes buildup from inside the strand

I think you should just use a chelating poo. ORS creamy aloe shampoo is a good one. It's not very stripping. You can use it once or twice a month.

I think that's the only thing I might suggest too, is to make sure to add a clarifying or Chelating shampoo to your regime as well.

Also i have noticed if i moisturize first before combing/manipulating my hair, i lose far less hairs.
