So, I've been using this relaxer for the past year. It seems pretty good...I can't say its damaged my hair. It feels great after relaxing :). The last time I relaxed was in June.

I have been experiencing a little dryness though, and when couple of other ladies mentioned this in some other threads as well, it got me thinking. I also noticed some very minor breakage on the ends within a few weeks of the relaxer. But then, again I did go kind of heat crazy this summmer:lachen:.

I know a lot of ladies like this relaxer, but for those of you who didn't care for it too much, can you please share why it didn't work for you?

Just trying to make sure I know the effect this chemical I put on my head has on different people.

TIA:kisslips:!

I like my hair straight and I've noticed this relaxer made my hair lifeless and dry. In addition, it wasn't even straight. I guess it might be okay for someone who needs a little smoothing of the cuticles. I hope this helps.

Did you do a protein treatment after the relaxer or immediately after rinsing the relaxer out before neutralizing. After self relaxing I starting using this step and now I don't have any breakage or extra shedding after relaxing. Just a thought. I used Mizani Lye and recently used Mizani Sensitive Scalp relaxer. Which I love alot. When before knowledge of protein treatments and LHCF, I used to have breakage and shedding. Just a thought.

Hi Simone and Princess,

I did use protein after the relaxer, but not before neutralizing. I wouldn't say the relaxer is giving major problems, but I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been.

Oh Ok. Im sure others will chime in soon. This is a popular relaxer.

My hair can not tolerate too much heat at all with this relaxer. I've used it now for over a year... I went for about a month this summer using heat once a week and got minor breakage.

I immediately cut the heat out and recovered nicely. I have fine. 4a hair

I use a leave in moisturizer each day
leave in anti snap each day
hard protein once 6 weeks
reconstructor when needed
deep condition when needed

AND STILL couldn't tolerate more heat than that....

ETA:

I think its my hair type more than the relaxer.

As long is i keep the protein/moisture treatments balanced, by cowashing about every three days, I get no breakage.

But then, I avoid heat. When I add heat to the equation, I get breakage.

If you're using the butter blend.......I feel you should use the entire line. In that case "you" are to use the "PerPHecting Creme" (protein conditioner) before neutralizing with the Hair Bath. There's also the "honey shield" to put on previous relaxed hair.

I personally use a different conditioner after the Hair Bath. But as The Princess stated.......protein is a good idea before neutralizing. Then moisture, moisture, and more moisture in the days to come.

Plus you should try using a stronger protein treatment 2 weeks before relaxing.

HTH :)

I just tried to Mizani Butter Blends for the first time last weekend. My hair feels soft and full of life. So far so good. One exception: My hair seems like it's shedding a lot. Should I do a light protein treatment tonight (ORS) or something heavier? My hair feels like its in balance (moisture vs. protein). I just want to stop this shedding! :wallbash:

You know, my hair shed a lot after I relaxed with this in December too. I kind of brushed it aside because it wasn't major and my hair felt fabulous, but it was definitely more than any other relaxer.

Maybe you should gry a garlic shampoo or conditioner. I've heard they help with shedding.
