Hey all!

I just styled my hair in a braid-out today for the first time...and I'm SO pleased with the results!

My question is: What can I do to make the style last for a couple more days, so as not to lose the waves and get a whole bunch of frizz? I plan on tying my hair up tonight with my satin scarf...but I have a feeling that my hair is not going to look as good in the morning and I'll have to try and create a whole new style.

Help!...anybody?

I can never get my braid outs to last for more than one day--that is it doesn't last nicely after one day. When I do braid outs I do them knowing that it will be a one day thing.

I did a braid out on Friday and got it to last the entire weekend. I slept with my satin bonnet but the trick is to flip the hair upside down before you put the bonnet on so you aren't smooshing it down while your sleeping.

Just dangle your head over (bend at the waist) before you slap that bonnet on...I got this from supergirl she recommeneded it for a spiral set and I didn't think it was going to work for a braid out but it did!

I try to manipulate them as little as possible. I never run my hands completely through the tendrils, otherwise, my curled ends are lost and frizzy. Part of keeping them is what you do when you are braiding. I make sure my hair is wet and when I take them down I do it w/oil soaked fingers (one of the best braid out tips ever!). The additional water locks them in so that I don't need gel or another product to make them "stay". The oil stops the frizzing in it's tracks, oil dipped fingers are the best, but oiled fingers work too. If all else fails, pick some of the frizzy sections, re-dampen and re-braid at night. Some nights I do 3-4 small braids and it gives the whole braid-out a really natual look, b/c of the varying wave size.

I can keep mine for 3 days, probably could go longer, but I like washing my hair.

Thanks Falon! I am definitely going to try this tonight to see if it works for me.

Wow! This is a really good idea...why didn't I think of that?

I think I'm going to rebraid/dampen the top layer of my hair all around (I have pics of this braidout in my album if you want to see what I mean). That way even if the bottom layer is "not so hot," I'll have the freshly braided-out section covering it...and I'll just be sure to blend well (with my oil dipped fingers

)! I'm starting to feel a lot more positive about my do tomorrow! Thanks a bunch!

Thanks everyone...I am learning so much about braidouts! I am so busy throughout the week that I don't REALLY have a lot of time to style my hair in the morning...that's why I stick to simple styles like buns...but since the weather is getting warmer, I'm trying to add a little variety...but yet I'm still trying to keep it quick and simple... Hmm, maybe I'll try a twistout next...

Anway, does anyone else use any special strategies to make this style last longer?

It seems this is what I ended up doing tonight...after all my planning of what I was going to do!

I started to just rebraid the top layer as I said I would earlier...but then I ended up doing my whole head. Well, at least it'll be fresh for tomorrow! Thank you all for your wonderful input!

I've recently had twistouts that lasted 5 - 6 whole days! I've noticed that if I start off really good, it lasts and lasts. If I'm in a hurry when I'm braiding or twisting, forget it.

It really seems to help me also to apply my products to hair that is almost dripping wet. If my hair is only kinda damp, my braidout looks frizzy by day 2. Also, it's a must to wait until my hair is COMPLETELY dry before undoing the braids.

Also, I think part of it is a person's hair type. My hair is kind of coarse, and that seems to help the staying power of the waves.

I can't think of anything else, but the other ladies gave you some good tips!

Thanks Nay! I LOVE the pics of your braidouts/twistouts in your album.

Also, I just thought I'd add that my hair came out GREAT this morning.

Thanks again ladies!
