Braiders/weavers: What braid spray/concoction are you using now???

I'm braided again Trying to decide what I'll use this time around to moisturize my braids without gunking them up.

Let me know...If you are using a concoction please tell me what's in it.

If you choose other please tell me what it is and where you purchased it.

I am currently using african pride braid spray. I use a lil Elasta qp recovery oil moisturizer as well. I just started putting Some NTM silk touch on my braids....I don't know if its doing anything yet but it smells GREAT!! My favorite braid spray used to be by Sheenique but I can't find it anymore

per the crown and glory method, i'm using african pride braid spray. i also use infusium 23. it doesn't leave a lot of build up. its light enough to use everyday. when i have my hair in braids, i poo once a week. honestly, i haven't tried much of anything else so i really have nothing to compare it to.

African Royale Braid Spray
Infusium 23 leave in
MTG
few drops of Peppermint oil, olive oil, coconut oil, rosemeary oil, castor oil, eucaliptus oil, EVOO.

shake and pour in spray bottle. spray every night
Apply a small amount of NTM silk touch in the morning on new growth and then slather on a small amount of jojoba oil to seal in the moisture.

So much new growth! And so soft too...

Do you get matting from this at the base of the braids?? According to crown and glory if you do this you will get matting. Just wondering?

For my braids I use Royal Roots Herbal moisture glaze for braids, locks, and twists. I usually mix it with a little water or IC leave in cond. in a spray bottle because its a little thick and when I take my braids out I have no breakage and my hair stays moist underneath.

Without knowing it, I used a lighter version of this concoction for when I went to Cuba for vacation. I have texturized hair under my braids but i did not want to bring all the bottles I use daily.so I did the following:

Infusium 23
water
eucalyptus oil
peppermint oil ( more that eucalyptus)

Shake and spray every day. Loved the scent, loved the tingling, and I knew my hair was taken care of. I still have my braids but not I use my Scurl moisturizer and a sulfur/oil concoction. Hope my hair is still decent after all that!!

same for me, I just use S-curl and then deep condition and all that. I think it works just as well, maybe better.

Me too and then I seal w/ some oil. I'm on a personal "use it up challenge" so I'm sealing w/ the various oils I have in the house and sometimes the hair creams that have oil in them.

Rabia, do you think that you've gotten more growth from your personal weave technique or from the C & G method? I'm weighing my summer options.

From my weave technique which is a combination of things I've learned from the hair boards, reniece's fotki, etc.

Weaves can be used for the crown and glory method. For the most part I'm still adhering to most of the crown and glory method.

Do you find that a partial weave yields more benefits for meeting your goal than the full weave?

Well I do an almost full weave. I leave out a small horseshoe section of hair in the front and my hairline in the front for the most natural looking weave. I would say about 90-95% of my hair is weaved up. A full weave (where no hair is left out) is probably the best sinc ALL of the hair would get to rest. But I have yet to see a full head weave that I liked for me.

With that said, if you can do a full head that is the best, but if you are like me and want the most natural looking weave I would leave out the horseshoe in the front and the hairline in the front. The hair that is left out is thinner and shorter than the rest of my hair unfortunately. But the rest of my hair is getting so long and thick that I barely notice it.

My goal is to be a full bra-strap in the back by my wedding next August, so I plan to start limiting the weaving (but continue the hiding) by January of next year. I'll probably start wearing my hair in buns or phonypony's about 50% of the time to allow my hair in the front to grow out some and thicken up.

Either way weaving works for me and others. The technique the weaveologist uses is very important. How you take care of your hair while it's weaved is also important. In addition the type of weave hair you use is important. Using quality hair means less brushing/combing of the weaved hair which means less tugging and stress on your natural hair.

I use INfusium 23 on certain days. Other days I use Sulfur 8 braid spray.

I used to use diluted MNT conditioner, and now alternate with dilute Bumble & Bumble leave in (rinse out) for moisture when I think have too much protein. I tried a mix of afrodetangler and Infusium 23 but haven't stuck to it long enough to know if its a good combo, may just alternate it and see now i've run out of MNT....

No I've never tried a closure. But I may be trying one soon on a client.
