Black *the color* Hair???

For people who are my complexion do you feel like black hair washes you out? I think I want to dye my hair black, I love the way black hair looks. My SO says that in the summer when I'm tan the black will look nice, but I'll look washed out come winter time! I think I want black hair, but I don't want to look like a vampire in the winter.
This was my coloring in Feb. Excuse the mediocre complexion

yes... black hair completely washes my face out. I look frightful @ night, kind of like morticia from the addams family

This is why i want to lighten my hair... i do think if you tan it'll look better but i've never tanned on my face so i don't really know

I'm not your complexion (a little darker), but I think you look beautiful just the way your hair is now. I have never seen your album. You look great relaxed and natural! I hope you get some more helpful responses--I just had to chime in...

I am the same complexion as you! And honey let me tell ya, black was the bomb on me! Everybody was sooo surprised at the way it looked on me. They all thought I too would look washed out. It made my hair look 2-3 times healthier!

People swore I was wearing tracks! The only reason I let it grow out was because I got to a point that I though black was never 'black enough'. So, I just decided to let it grow out.

Thanks you're so sweet. Right now, my hair is a light brown at the tips and it looks nice, esp. when I wear my hair in twists, but I really love black hair.

Yes, that's another reason why I want to dye it black, black hair always looks so healthy and shiny!

Right now I'm tanner, I tan super easily and I love being out in the sun (i do wear sunscreen, don't want to get skin cancer

) I also have bronzer and my sunscreen/moisturizer is tinted, so if I really want I guess I could be tan year round, that's what I was telling my SO, if I look to washed out I could always use bronzer

I think I'm going to go for it, you never know unless you try!

I love black hair! I used to dye my hair black and it made me look a little more exotice. The opposite is true for me about it washing you out, I'm about your comeplexion and ever since I died my hair lighter, people have been telling me how pale I look. When my hair was darker it gave me a little more color.

When I dyed my hair black it washed me out, but I guess it depends on what color of black - my hair turned out a bluish black and I just hated it! But I have to admit my hair did look very healthy and shiney.

I love my hair black! And I'm so glad the "true" blackness of my hair is coming back with natural hair. I can't wait till those brownish relaxed hairs are all gone. I thought I would want to dye my hair when natural but now I don't for a couple of reasons - I've read of too many naturals having issues with color and I just really love super black hair.

Well, I'm a big fan of black hair. I think you'll look very nice in it. My hair is jet black and I think it's the color that fits me best. All lighter colors tend to do little for my features. They tend to wash me out. My hair is as black as Cantrell's hair.

What rinses or dyes do you use to get such an intense and not muddy black?

I dyed my hair black and felt my face just looked pale and all my blemishes stands out. As we got hit with an usually early and hot summer, I was able to get some color on my face to help with the washed out look, but since I use such a high SPF (30) on my face, not much color is happening.
I'm thinking about about going with red to compromise with myself!!
Maybe you should go try on a black wig and see how you like it?

For me black hair clashes more with my summer tan than my winter "brown-olive-beige" skin tone. I love brown/blond hair in the summer.
I think it depends on the undertones in the skin. If your skin gets more golden in the summer, golden tones will compliment that skin tone. If it gets more brown/reddish, black hair will look awesome.
If your winter color is golden, black might look too harsh. I really have no clue what I'm talking about here, haha.

But really, I think you should study your natural hair color. Normally, we are blessed with hair/eye colors that compliments our skin.

Black kinda washed me out but it was a cool look for the winter. The thing with black is that I was always trying to get it more black. (Probably why it was so hard to get it out!) My favorite hair color by far was Natural Instincts Midnight Black. I was always looking for Amazon Indigo from their Exotics line but could never find it.

One thing about black is that some companies will offer different shades of level one hair color (level one referring to the color NOT the type of hair color (one being the darkest at black and ten being the lightest at platinum blonde). For example I was looking at the Natural Instincts shade chart and they have a new level one hair color called Blackberry under the Red family. Back when I was dying my hair black there was another brand called MC Max by Clairol (available at Sallys) that actually had three level one colors... Blue Onyx, Black Orchid, and Black Widow. However MC Max is a permanent dye so I was always looking for similar shades in semi-permanent but never was successful.

Agreed. I personally love blue black but it is definitly different from neutral black and can be quite a shock!

I think it will look good. My mom and myself have jet black natural hair and she is a shade or two lighter then you and it looks good on her

I think a jet black would look nice. I rinsed mine back to black from a very brassy looking light brown. I like an intense black color on women with our coloring. alot of time very dark brown (natural color for many women of all races)looks washed out or mousy as white ladies call it. Reddish or golden color really brings out the face and features. But an intense black gives depth too.

Looking at your pics again has led to my final decision to do it, I think that black looks great on you

I will be using a henna black haircoloring from Everyday Henna; I'm ordering it in literally a few seconds. I can't wait, now
