Which do you prefer? Dark hair or light ? I use to be stuck on coloring my hair black because I think it makes the complexion look better and the hair healthier. Then I decided to lighten. Now it seems as if I have been seeing alot of people darkening their hair. Which do you prefer?

I agree that really dark rinses make the hair look healthy and shiny. But I know they don't necessarily work with my complexion. I'm about the complexion of Queen Latifah, but I have very red undertones, so when my hair was black - I looked washed out. Now that my hair is closer to it's natural warm shade, my skin and eyes look better. I don't have to compensate with makeup to try and get color back into my face.

If you look at my pictures you can see that I love dark hair. My hair is normally brown but I dye it black b/c I love how it shines an the fact that it looks so good against my skin

I used to color my hair black, too...with Bigen. I love jet black hair. However, I'm thinking about dying it lighter. My hair is this ugly color brown and It hink I want to color it a browner brown. Or maybe I'll go with black again, we'll see.

I've had a bunch of haircolors, but I look best with light brown reddish hair. It brightens my face a ton. My black roots are coming in, and I look okay with black, but it just makes me feel a bit boring.

I prefer dark colored hair. My own hair is a mix of dark brown, dark auburn, meduim auburn and gray, all naturally and it doesn't take dye well at all but if it did, I'd dye it darkest brown even though I would love to dye it black but I'm not sure if it would look good with my skin.

Caramela which black dye do you use? Is it permanent or simply a rinse? I use a black rinse as well, but the company that I've been using for the last 7 years went out of business

i've worn red-wood brown with honey blonde highlights which looked really good! but it gets "dry" and i was working in the sun everyday...so i needed a darker color.

my preference is black...brilliant black to be exact. my alternative is clairol color gloss black 1A (semi-permanent) mixed with clear for EXTRA shine (black already reflects light really well).

*a word of caution*-be careful when dying hair black b/c of the green and blue hues that you can get (they're really visible out in the sun) to counteract this (you or your hairdresser) mix the black with red (a capful).

Depends...I've had light-colored hair, which I prefer in the winter, and I currently have dark-colored hair, which I think I'll stick with for a while. I'm so glad my (ex)stylist at least covered my highlights (they're now a beautiful dark auburn) so the growing out process is aesthetically easier.

Good advice, Lady Libra, about mixing black with red.

For myself I prefer light colored hair. My natural hair color is a very dark brown, which just doesn't work with my skin color because I'm VERY light. Light hair brightens my face a lot. I look totally washed out with dark hair.

My mom's hairdresser does that for her. Every couple of rinse applications, he'll do one with red tones.

Hi Kim,
How about experimenting with a few light streaks around the front sides just to compare and see what suits you at this time

i used to have redish gold highlights and then i said i wanted to go dark so i went jet black and got lots of compliments but i felt it was boring so i added some gold highlights to it and now i like it a lot. personally i think light hair looks good with low lights and dark hair looks good with high lights

What kind of red should I mix with it? I am going to use some kind of black rinse. Can you give my some examples? And Thanks for the replys!!

i loooove dark straight hair. I think it does make the hair appear healthier and gives it more depth. For natural haired sistas i looove seeing light colors like golds and bronzes, to me it makes the style more interesting and gives more of a "look".

I have had both, my natural hair color is black and I find that it looks much healthier and shinny, people ask me if I dye my hair black, I love the way it looks. I had hightlights which I loved, but my hair required way too much oil for it to shine just a little and look healthy

i think i will stick with dark hair for now

I love my blonde highlights, which look bronze to auburn most of the time due to all of the oils that I apply during the week. My complexion is the color of coffe regular and Ive been told that the highlights compliment my face.

I colored my hair jet-black for years and I loved every minute of it, but I needed a change. My dark-brown hair currently has gold highlights.
The highlights compliment my light complexion. When my hair was jet-black, I loved the look of such a dark hue of hair against my light-skin. After a while, I began to look washed out and decided to go lighter. I think the highlights are a keeper for now!

I agree about sistahs with natural hair. Those browns and golds really work on natural hair!!
