BKT users with long hair...please help the rest of us out!

Dove56 how many treatments are in that 7.5 oz can? MixedGirl do you remember how much of the can they used when you received you DE treatment recently?

MileHighDiva

In the DE FAQs it says to use roughly 2 ounces per treatment and that each bottle should yield 4 treatments near the end of the document:

Dove56 - you know you're tempting me to try it, right? (lol) How did it work for you?

lana

I have not done the treatment yet but I am most definitely anxious to try it. I am going to do a couple of test sections and give you all an update. :yep: I think it will be great though!

Wow it seems they fell off. I had a good experience with them before they changed their website

I'm glad you had a good experience I sure wish I had. I've been waiting and waiting still no product.

When I tracked the package today it says it's still in Maryland! I'm like WTH? I was supposed to receive it last Friday. They said I should have it tomorrow but we shall see...

I plan on purchasing DE by tomorrow at the latest. Do you know if we can we use any sulfate free shampoo with this system?

LisaMar

I always used whatever brand I wanted with my keratin treatments and I never had any problems. I plan to use this ENTIRE bottle though after shelling out my $$$ for it. :yep:

It's a great treatment by the way! I just finished and my hair came out great!!! Woot!! Thx yodie!

Dove56, Congrats!!! Welcome aboard the DE experience. Keep us posted.

yodie it is awesome! It didn't even swell during the flatiron process. I went ahead and did the treatment tonight because I'm going to Houston tomorrow and that will be a great place to test the treatment!

I shampooed with DE Sulfate Free Shampoo then started applying the product.

I applied it, put on a plastic cap for 15 minutes then blowdried my hair and did only two passes at 340 degrees. On the right side (I always split it down the middle and do one side at a time) of my hair I did a few sections at 410 and 375 but 90% was at 340. I didn't want to exceed 2 passes because I am afraid of heat damage.

I did use roughly 2 - 2.5 ounces of the product and I made sure I didn't over saturate my hair because I know blowfrying can be hell when you do that lol.

The blowfry process was very easy and so was flatironing. There are no fumes, coughing, headaches, all the drama of Brazilian keratin treatments I did back in the day.

After I flatironed I shampooed again with DE Sulfate Free Shampoo then used my L'Oreal Total repair 5 restoring conditioner. I let sit in my hair about 10 minutes then rinsed. Next I applied Macadamia healing Oil spray (it says to apply to towel dried hair) then my Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray. The blowdry process was great and my hair was very shiny and healthy looking. :yep:

After that I used my Babyliss Titanium flatiron on 340 degrees around my edges and on the top section of my hair then I used 375 everywhere else. I only did one pass per section and that was all I needed for super sleek silky hair. :yep:

I will post pictures tomorrow of it outside so you all can see what it looks like in daylight. It's extremely shiny, full of body and it didn't swell at all during the flatiron process. :spinning:

I didn't have any heat damage or straight pieces (other than my ends from transitioning). If my curl pattern was loosened at all it is very minimal because I can't tell.

I also purchased the DE Silkening Spray to use in-between treatments.

I think I will do this treatment in the Summer only (First day of Summer today is perfect) when humidity is an issue then just let it wear off because I won't need it in the cooler months.

I plan to do a rollerset next week like I used to do with QOD Max Organiq. If it doesn't work that's fine though because I can flatiron twice a month and roll with this. :yep: I think it's excellent so far. It is easier to apply than QOD Max Organiq and it's marketed to Black women which is even better. :yep:

Dove56, I can't wait to see the pics of your straight hair! What does this mean? "It didn't even swell during the flatiron process." Does your hair hair normally swell when doing these type of treatments?

My hair is mostly natural now. Back in the day when I used to flatiron my natural hair it would poof before I could finish! So annoying, plus I sweat so bad under those flatirons lol.

I attached a photo of my hair after I used a flatiron. I washed it yesterday, mainly to see if my curl pattern was still intact then did a rollerset so I attached a photo of my hair after the rollerset as well.

I am pleased with the product. My hair is still curly but it didn't frizz when I was in Houston over the weekend so this is def a keeper for the Summer. :yep:

I honestly don't feel like these photos do a good job of truly depicting how shiny, smooth and silky my hair is. This is due to bunning for the last 8.5 months, no chemicals and minimal heat styling as well as this treatment preventing my hair from exploding. :yep:

Hi Ladies

A bit late but just wanted to add my comments
I get most of my hair inspiration and ideas from this board – it has helped me a great deal and hopefully my experience can help those of you with BKT concerns.
I have had a BKT about 5/6 times now – never had a problem. I have thick below shoulder length 4a/b hair and the BKT makes it easier to handle
The first couple of times it was applied by a professional and the last times I did it at home.
I did loads of research and took about a year thinking about it before I finally took the plunge. I have not had any regrets and can honestly say it has been good for my hair. I only do the treatment twice a year and my hair has always reverted back over time. I think that part of the problem some have had is too much heat and overuse of the process. Some were BKT’ing every few weeks. Like anything it does need an element of knowing your own hair and what it can and cant handle. When the BKT was applied I only ever passed the flat iron over each section a max of 3 times. When the treatment was washed out I would follow up with DC’ing and still treating my hair gently. A good friend had hers done a year before me in a salon and the results were beautiful but she ended up with breakage due to excessive use of her irons (she admitted she got carried away with the straight look)

Not to be taken lightly is the Formaldehyde element – even if the BKT claims to be Formaldehyde free please do your own research. Although I highly rate the BKT experience I have had so far I cant ignore the potential hazards Formaldehyde may pose for some. For me, I make sure I am in an open space (outside in the back yard) before I blow dry during the process.

Hope this comment helps someone

Dove 56, It was worth every cent, right?
I'm gonna invest in my own bottle. I also need to try the silkening spray. Not sure how to use it just yet, other than it's an in between treatment.

Yay!!! Another DE treatment success.

Absolutely! :yep: Thanks so much for reviewing this product it is excellent! I am amazed that it has not altered my natural hair at all. :) My sister loved my hair so much she asked me to do a treatment on her hair so I'll be doing her hair in a couple of weeks. :yep:

You know, I'm not sure how to use the silkening spray lol. I thought it was more of a heat protectant. I think it would be great for someone relaxed though.

@ Caliscurls
I have GHD straighteners which only have one heat which I believe is 185 degrees C.

I have had QOD and Cocochoco - both produced good results but if I had to choose the QOD was best (but had more fumes)

Thanks Jaffa , I just finished applying the QOD and am about to flat iron once I'm finished with the 'blow dry" step (I'm just sitting under my hair dryer instead smoothing my hair). It's good to know high heat isn't necessary.

Hi
185 degrees Celcius is 365 Farenheit - this is hot for me:Blush2: but it is effective.
I take very small sections and do 2 to 3 passes max - I have thick hair and would rather take my time and do it in a controlled way as I think it minimises the heat damage.

I ended up doing it on 380 Fahrenheit with one pass, hopefully that was enough. Instead washing it out, I'm going to just wear it like this until Sunday...or longer. Washing now is just too much manipulation.
