Okay, so me and the SO were in Wal-mart,browsing the aisles when this employee there stopped me and proceeded to ask me questions. My hair was in a phatty twistout style. Here's the convo:
Lady: Your hair is pretty.
Me: Thanks
Lady: Do you have a relaxer?
Me: No 'mam.
Lady: How did you do your hair like that?
Me (I showed her how I twist them and then I unraveled them for her to see.)
Lady: Can I touch it?
Me: Sure.

Now,mind you all that I didn't think nothing of it, this was an older woman who was curious about my hair. Well, I leaned my head toward her, thinking she would touch my hair, but no. Guess what this woman did?
Yup, she rubbed my scalp, I guess to see if I had tracks or something in it. Now this made me mad. All the while she was acting like she was interested in my actual style, but all along she was trying to figure out if my hair was real. Mind you all she never asked me if it was real. I would have appreciated that question versus her rubbing the top of my hair. Looks like I will be buying that shirt from Chylric Images that says, 'no, you cannot touch my hair!'

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was going to involve 'someone putting a root on you'.
i thought thats what she was gonna say too. i was all prepared to hear about how she lost her job, her SO, and got kicked in the shins all on the same day :lachen:

LOL...I was thinking she put something in it to break it off or something. My mom thinks all the long hair she sees is REAL, and shes 70+. Weave checks are not limited to 65+ crowds. You can see young folx staring at long hair and they can barely stand still for wanting to touch it....lol...

I would have just held out a small section of my hair for her to feel. People can get ring worm from letting folks with dirty hands touch their scalp.

Well that was pretty bold of that woman!!!! She has horrible manners!!!!!!

By the way your hair is beautiful.....I love it!!!

I was just about to say that.. Not only that even if it was fake, it still looks good, so why does it matter? :ohwell:

Here is my thought on the matter. I think some women think their hair can't do this or that. If they see someone with the style they want, they have to write it off as it's a weave or I don't have that type of hair. I noticed this once I became a natural. People would compliment my hair and say I wish my hair can do that. We are so conditoned into thinking our hair is limited when it has unlimited potential.

(I get hair envy looking at Bub's pretty hair)

LOL. I go through this all the time. Everytime I hug one of the ladies at church they are sure to rub my hair to feel if its real.

lol!!! when I was relaxed people would always ask if my hair is real and they would touch it a little, but they never handed out free scalp massages  one of my 8 year old students who is natural always tells people including other teachers "Remember the rule...don't touch the hair!"

This same thing happened to me once...but this ***** didn't touch either, she pulled! I was like "Oh my goodness, owwww!" (I overexagerrated the "oww" so she would understand how stupid she looked yanking my hair like that) Then she said "Oh, I thought it was weave?" Then I said, "So if it was weave then it wouldn't hurt as much?" Yeah, people do stupid stuff sometimes.

Ugh! How rude of her! Old people think they can just do anything cause they been around for a while...lol

ITA...If you are younger than they are then they don't show you respect. I use to work with the elderly and they can be some of the most rudest, funniest people in the world, but we have to respect them because of their age.

There has been many of times, I wanted to choke the heck out of Mrs.S for calling me fat when I wasn't.
