Beautician said her relaxer only last 4 weeks

I got a touch up about 5 weeks ago. The beautician said that she was suprised that I had not made an appoinment for a touch up because the strenght of relaxer she uses only lasts 4 weeks. She said it was less damaging than relaxers that last 6 to 8 weeks. I've never heard of this. I thought how long a relaxer lasted depended on growth rate. Any one heard of this? She said some relaxers are made to be applied every two weeks?!

That statement should be filed under "Stupid things your beautician told you". I've never heard such BS! If the relaxer only last 4 weeks, she should be using something a bit stronger - just my guess. What brand was it? I bet the folks gettin' relaxers every 2 weeks are about bald.

I think now-a-days many people use cosmetology as a "way out" of college or school in general. 20 years ago women wanted to do cosmetology because they really found interest in making others look beautiful, I'm not so sure that is the case anymore.

I remember thinking that my hair was falling out because I wasn't getting a relaxer every 6 weeks like I was supposed to. However, most of the time I was too lazy or broke to keep up with the 6 week rule. Imagine the shock I received when my beautician back then told me that my hair was breaking because I was supposed to get a relaxer every 4 weeks!! I believed her too! But I was too broke and lazy to even get a relaxer every 4 weeks. Thank God for my brokeness and laziness cause I'm sure that I would have been bald listening to this beautician!

OK, that is the silliest stuff I ever heard!

Relaxers are permanent!! They change the chemical bonds in the hair! There is now way they can "last only 4 weeks" unless your hair is growing ALL the way out of the relaxer in that time, and that is impossible.

I wonder this too sometimeserplexed . I would like to get my cosmetology license and I have a degree in economics from one of the top schools in the country. I want to own a salon focused on health...and then style...but health first! I wish there were more salons out there like that.

I don't understand what school these people are going to and what state board exam are they passing? Ladies please verify your stylists are licenced. When I took up cosmetology in high school, I was thought the science of hair. I just don't understand how someone who met the requirements to sit for a state board exam would think things like that.

I am going to go to someone else for my next touch up. The woman at my job says the lady she goes to won't even give a touch up before 8 weeks. She will probably be more understanding that I like to go 10-12 weeks between touchups.

Right.....doesn't it depend on how fast your hair grows? Not the actual relaxer....idiot..does the hair magically revert back to new growth texture after 4 weeks.

Beauticians do say some crazy things. Years ago, my beautician (then) said she "trained her clients' hair to need a relaxer every 4 weeks." Needless to say, she's my "then" beautician. I haven't been back to her since that last crazy comment.
