Be honest...Am I going to suffer some setbacks?

Okay I have finally eliminated me blowdryer all together and for the past couple of weeks have been using the Indian products and regimen to wash and treat my hair. I now airdry by banding and then flat-iron for a straight look. This is what I do:

Pre-poo overnight with Amla Oil
Next Day apply mixture of ORS Replenishing Condish & NTM Relaxed and Natural Mask w/ olive and peppermint oil (Under the dryer 1hr)
Apply Shikaki Powder paste to hair..let sit for 45mins
Rinse FOREVER then wash with Shakai Soap Bar
Condish for 5 mins with cheap condish
Apply Elasta QP H20 Leave-In Spray and a couple drops of Chi Silk Infusion
Airdry by banding
After dry apply another drop of chi silk infusion and flat iron using fine toothed comb

WHEW!

NOW: :lachen: When I first attempted to airdry with banding it came out straight but when I flatironed it came out puffy! I also only had my FHI on like 300  Only thing straight was my roots.
Sunday when I attempted again, I modified by using QP H20 Leave In, Chi Silk Infusion, Used a fine tooth comb WHILE flat ironing, AND I turned my FHI all the way up to like 450! :perplexed

And it worked! Hair is STILL straight!

Only thing is...I have a goal of waist length and I dont want to mess up whatever progress I get. Do you think what Im doing is wrong, like too much or do you think Im on the right track.

Sorry for the LONG post ladies....I just know these questions would be asked so I decided to answer them now!

ETA: I also moisturize a couple times a week with Dabur Vatika/Coconut oil

I think you should try flatironing on a lower temp. Since 300 isn't working maybe gradually upping the temp to see if you can avoid turning it all the way up.

Yeah your right...at the same time I didnt use the comb on that temp, so maybe it will work with the comb?? :perplexed

oils dont moisturize. you should use a water based moisturizer. and you can use the coconut oil or dabur oil as a sealant.

well since mango butter is water based, some members here use it but it did nothing for my hair. try it an see if it works for you. if not you can use it as a sealant.

Girl, 350 on my Fhi does nothing for me either! My hair always comes out poofy, and looks like I just blowdried it. Last night, I cranked that sucker up all the way to 400 or 450 (can't remember which) and my hair came out GREAT! Even my dh kept commenting on how pretty my hair looked, and how my hair never looked so good :)

I only flatiron my hair about 3-4 times a year, what harm could it do? I figure as long as you don't use heat too much, always use a heat protectant, and a quality flatiron, you should be cool :yep:

Girl thank you for understanding!!!! I swear if I use 300-350 my hair looks like a soft blowdry! But see your better than me...3-4x a year?? That's good! I was gonna see if I could get away with it....every 2 weeks! :lachen: I hope so! Hopefully someone will tell me it's ok!

I use a good heat protectant and flat iron my hair once a week and I have no problems and I think that my hair likes the heat, it didn't like the roller sets so I am sticking to using the heat now.

Girl I promised I tried! :lachen: It just doesnt work for me...If I could I would!
Don't give up so easily! I have type 3 hair like yourself so can vouch for roller setting. It gets my roots straight w/o any extra heat. I learned to roller set by practicing on dry hair.

Alternatively, when my stylist does my hair, he blow dries it, lightly goes over the roots with a hot comb, then uses a curling iron on the length. Last time he did this, my hair held up to a south Florida summer for a week. I only go to the salon once a year though.

BTW, are you natural or relaxed?

I'm mostly natural...I don't know how to put it! :lachen: Last time I texlaxed was June 06.

See I dont think my hair minds heat either, because I have never remembered having any MAJOR damage from heat, but my hair has been BSL for years, so I just want to make sure what I'm doing wont hinder any progress.
