I noticed that PoohBear and Other members that have Big Chopped seem to have hair that is growing like weeds. I transitioned to natural hair, I don't feel my hair is growing as fast. I do realize that technigues may make the hair retaining and growing process differ for everyone. It seems to be that Big Choppin gets you faster hair results. Sorry if this post is worded weirdly, it is Fourth of July, the bleach smells are getting to me from cleaning all day.

I honestly dont know...if anything you can see the growth accrued better from someone who started off as almost bald compared to someone who is going to a longer transition. The growth is a lot more noticable.

I agree with Ayeshia! I was one of those who started out almost bald! Country gal, maybe that's why you notice my hair growing! It's really only been growing 1 inch every 2 months.

Check out my super short hair pic in the attachment and compare it to the pic in my avatar or signature. ;)

So, Poohbear, you went from the super short hair pic in May 2005 to your current look in avatar now (July 2006)? So approx 14 months? I'm certainly not a math person but would that be more than one inch every 2 months? Bottom line, that's A LOT of growth and gives me some hope, per my morning posting today about hair growth (which I believe you so kindly responded to...thanks!) :)

i transitioned for about 9months my growth seems pretty steady ..vitamins help with good water intake...for me

Hmmmm... :scratchch

By the way, that super short hair pic I posted was of my 2nd BC I had on May 13th...

Back then it was ~0.25".
Now it's ~6.5".
So a total of 6.25" in 13.5 months...

But I've had 2 trims since then, which probably took away 0.5".
So I grew a total of 6.75" in 13.5 months!!!

Okay, my brain is tired now! :Blush2: Well, it seems like my hair really has been growing just ~0.5" a month. ;)

Too many decimals! So you just BC'd again this past May (2006)? Wow!!!!

I think this might be the case--I did the BC at 12 months, with about 5" of hair. My hair seems to be growing at just under .5" monthly, which is about what I expect (my hair doesn't grow super fast, nor super slow). BUT, while my hair is growing, the coils/curls make it shrink, so my hair doesn't seem all that longer than it was at my BC, even though I think my hair is about 6-7" now.

Since I didn't transition I cannot say but from my prior bc's my hair grew back to shoulder length w/i 1 yr but it didn't get as far natural w/i 1 yr. :(

It just seems like my hair is growing fast but taking forever to see any real results. Shrinkage is a major pain in the butt. In order for my hair to reach my shoulders in it's natural state it would have to be really waist length.

Pooh- your hair seemed to grow really quick. Janey girl's hair grew quick too.

I agree I think you notice growth more when someone chops really short. I transitioned for 11 months and I think my growth rate is pretty much the same since i've been natural as when I was transitioning. Shrinkage can be annoying at times but I just stretch a piece of my hair out to remind myself it really is growing.

I think you can't really tell when transitioning compared to someone that did the big chop cause you still have relaxed hair. I think it would be the same either way.

I think it probably doesn't make a difference. I think Poohbear and I started transitioning right around the same time Feb/March 2005, but she just BC'd a year before I did. I'd say that we aren't that far apart as far as growth.

Growth is more noticeable when someone BC's, than with someone who's Transitioning. With Transitioning hair you still can see growth, but with the different textures it's somewhat hard to see. But overall, hair still grows just the same.

I chose BC. I did it last year and just kept on a strict braid regimen. As of now I'm shoulder length. I'm still shocked on how fast it grew.

If people who BC notice more results...I think it is because they wet their hair more for styling options and the moisture helps keep their scalp clean for growing and their hair moisturized for retaining length...

I am transitioning...and it seems to me that we do co-wash and rinsing far less than those who have BC....

Thats my theory...and Im sticking to it :D

I did a BC. I think it seems more noticable b/c I went so short. My hair has always grown about 3/4 of an inch per month.

I wash frequently and it does help me in retaining length. One of my friends hadn't seen me in 8 months and he was impressed with my growth. I guess it is harder for us to see it than others.

Honestly I think your hair grows about the same whether you BC or transition. I dont think cutting it changes the growth rate. So therefore I pick niether. I havent seen any changes in my hair sine I did a mini chop and it still grows the same rate.

I chose BC. I transitioned for almost 9 months, I had terrible breakage and it is the reason I BC. I think my hair is growing/retaining length better. Unfortunately, I have a major shrinkage problem and my hair doesn't look 2 inches long, when it's acutally 5.5-6.5 inches. I think it's all perception.

I Big chopped. I went from less than 2 inches to shoulder length in 6 months. Now I'm at/little past bra strap. It will be 2 years since the big chop on August 11. I made it to brastrap in about 1.5 years. I have heard people say that it's better to do the big chop because you don't have the scab hair issue.

I don't think any method results in faster hair growth. It's just that you can 'see' the growth with the big chopps.

This happened to me as well! It seems like the more I chop the quicker it grows now.

I'm not sure the answer to your question, but I do know that my hair after two years of transitioning is almost as long as it has been for the past 4 years! So my hair definitely does better left natural and with little heat.
