Hello ladies,

I'm getting way tired dealing with two textures of hair :perplexed I can't twist, braid or cornrow I mean I could but its stressing me as I want to wash n go. My last perm was on Sep2008. It was a curly perm, I decided to go natural coz I already have curls in my hair I thought a curly perm will make my curls more manageable:lachen:. My goal now is natural healthy length.

My problem with big-chop is that I will end up with the shortest hair I ever have had. And yet it seems I can't deal anymore with my permed hair, am so hating it :nono:

My boyfriend says to wait till summer then chop it off and my friends are saying stuff like "if your hair is short like a boy I don't want you to be seen beside me am serious" and "Do you know how long it will take you to grow hair?"

I wanna chop it off now, I reached to the point where I don't care if I will look bad and am a diva at heart :wallbash: long hair to me always meant or connected to me being a woman.

Don't blame me please, I came from a culture that see women by their hair. I've grown outside that as I know there is more to define me as a human and a woman then a hair cut..

I just need to read your input, does anyone feel what am going through? Should I chop or fallow what others are saying? I'm just fearful coz I never had short curly hair...

Also am attaching my hair photo of my new growth hoping someone can give me an insight on my hair type. :look:

NEVER follow what others are saying. Do what you want to do, seriously take some time and think about it on your own. Remember it's just hair, it grows back.

Thats what I tell them it does grow back but nopi every one is trying hard to brainwash me that my hair grows slow. Well yea didn't care for it. So stressed :look: But so excited when I think of chopping :D thanks almondjoi85

^^
What she said... it's your hair, do what you want to do. Your natural texture is really pretty!

You still sound a little unsure so maybe you should try out what your boyfriend's suggested and wait till the summer (it's practically here already). Think hard (about yourself) before you make a decision... Good luck!

I feel you- you're scared to look like a boy. I went through that like probably most everyone else after I did the BC. There were just some days when I didn't feel 'pretty.' But I learned to invest in headbands, pretty hair clips and just use more color. It also helped to keep my eyebrows always well done-LOL!

Do whatever it takes to make you feel more comfortable about your new look.:yep:

Do what's best for you. If you have doubts, then don't rush it. But don't let other ppl keep you from doing it either. Once you like it and feel good about it, your friends will also think so too.

All the best!

Your texture looks around 3a/3b I think.
You sound like you're ready to do this chop...You should do it. just accessorize when you go out. get some big earrings. The short hair will probably bring out your natural beauty.

If you don't like it, you can get a half wig for when you go out. It'll grow long again soon enough. just have patience. It will be beautiful.

I also suggest that you go look through some fotki albums and see some images of ladies who chopped short. This should provide inspriation and incentive. If you're not inspired looking at them then it probably means you're not ready to do it yet and you should wait a little longer.

I'm posting some here to get you going.

Thanks ladies,
Your replies has helped a lot. I have noticed that some/most naturals are chopping their own heads. Can I do that or ask my boyfriend to do it? Why everyone or almost everyone is chopping her/his own head? <--------- Dumb question I know but am new to this bear with me :)

What kind of
friends are you hanging
with...
:ohwell:

Anyways
it your hair=your
decision.

Sounds to me also like you are ready to chop. I chopped myself and it felt great. And to answer your question I self chopped because 1) I didn't want anyone around to discourage me from doing it and 2)it was 2am, but mostly it was because of #1. I felt happy and confident. People may say things to make you feel bad but look at the bigger picture of why you want to chop and where you'll be in a year. If it's convinient and healthier do it. I had to deal with my then SO not wanting to go out in public with me because my hair was short but we eventually broke up and I have NO regrets. I did it for me and he knew I had hair issues and if he couldn't understand that I did it to have healthier hair then he wasn't worth being in my life. I still have no regrets.

You sound like someone who's eyeballing them scissors!!!!
DO WHATS RIGHT FOR YOU!!! NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE!!!

Screw waht friends/boyfriends say.

What do YOU FEEL is the best move?

I've been transitioning forever it feels like and I get times when I want to BC and other times I dont. It's a see saw with me. Is it a see saw with you? Or do you always want to cut, but don't due to the opinions of others?

GOOD LUCK with whatever u choose....

*note - i think u should cut.

One word- L-I-B-E-R-A-T-I-N-G!

Actually- make that 2- it helped me to have control over the process too.
