Baggying in the summer

Hi, lately I've baggied a few times, both at night and for a few hours during the day, using either a plastic shower cap or a grocery bag over freshly moisturised hair. The baggies have left my hair nice and moisturised, which is want I'm wanting :yep:. Only problem is, when wearing the baggy for a while, my head feels a bit hot and sweaty and uncomfortable under there, which I do not like :nono:. Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, what did you do to counteract it? Thanks in advance :)

Ok I'm new to baggying.. but I wonder, would using a lil peppermint oil (mixed with something I guess) bring a nice minty feeling to your scalp to combat the inevitable hot and sweaty feeling you will get?

The baggy method is designed to do that, so yes I've also experienced. Plenty of baggy threads here, unfortunately you have to dig deep through some of them to find answers. I think I have some in my subscribed threads and I will ETA shortly.

The dampness can be controlled by:
- Moisturizing the hair but not sealing with oil. Apply plastic cap. if you overnight baggy, then seal in the morning after cap comes off.
- I typically moisturize, whole head baggy for a few hours in the evening, seal lightly, and baggy the ends overnight. My ends are damp by morning but not overly so. I find the less oil I use, the less dampness I experience.
- You can poke small holes in the plastic bag, squeeze out extra air in plastic bag (while on your head), this also reduces dampness when whole head baggying. HTH

I think some people make holes in the baggy. I use no products so I've never had any discomfort from baggying in the summer. I've been wearing a baggy non-stop all week.

I would do a baggied bun, but my hair is no longer long enough for a bun now :nono:, since it's shoulder length but there is major shrinkage from all the new growth. Plus, I feel like most of my hair needs some extra moisture, not just the ends. Thanks for the suggestion though, will consider it in the future :yep:.

I never thought of putting holes in the baggy, sounds like a good idea, thank you :yep:. I will also check out those links :)

poking the holes is a tremendous, tremendous help. before learning about the holes and not sealing with oil when baggying overnight, my hair was soaked by morning. good luck.

oh btw,
kiesha has a great fotki about baggying. she's a member on LHCF too. sunshyne & chicoro has given good info on this too. i've studied baggying alot but i still struggle with prod application. i apply way too much prod and that's what cause dampness.

Because of the heat I don't baggy when it gets over 95 degrees at night. I just sleep on a satin pillowcase. If it's less than 95 degrees I just put up.

I agree with divachyk. I apply my moisturizer only then I only baggy my ponytail and I don't get a sweaty feeling afterewards. I seal my ends after I baggy.
