i want to join this challenge!

i really cant stand messing with my hair every morning because I get tempted to use the flat iron and my braid out's arent perfect yet.

i would love to do the bun thing but with a phony pony over it. my hair is not long enough to do a bun by itsself.

i will con wash my hair 1x week and take my vitamins religously.

also i wil rotate my hair conditioners and be GENTLE with my hair.

How long is the challenge? I want to retain 3" by April. Its a stretch but you gotta aim for the sky!

IM IN!!!!!

Gaining length is my biggest motivation! After doing mostly buns during the fall, when I finally pressed my hair I couldn't believe the length.:trampolin It was like at first I thought my hair was shedding strands that hung below the rest of my hair. Then I realized that was the actual length. APL, here I come!

Im on this challenge, Im running my tail out and buying that spongy donut hole...lol, I think we can get a silk sock and cut it over the hole CBC

I took a clean old non-cotton sock and rolled it into a donut hole. Sistaslick has instructions in her album. The sponge from Sally's was slightly too big for me to cover everything.

And, the donut hole is made of sponge so, how do you prevent your ends from drying out over that?
Sounds like a good challenge ladies.
You could soak the bun in your misting or oil mixture that way it won't suck the moisture out of your hair. hth

i want to join, but I'm scurred! this would be my first official LHCF challenge. i can wrap my hair around a donut, but would i moisturize the length of my ponytail before covering the donut with my hair? i know that you said the you have to redo it daily to keep it neat so is that when you moisturize the rest of your hair? when you wash do you wait for your hair to dry before putting in a bun or put it in a bun wet? last question....sorry, are the donut buns the only type of buns we can wear, or can we wear the balls that you clip on and secure with pins(if you know the one's i'm talking about)?i hope that's all my questions. TIA!:)

one more question. do we wear the buns everyday and only take them down to wash our hair? thanks!

yes, you would moisturize the length with your favorite moisturizer (eg. olive oil, wgo, pm's the conditioner )

yes :yep:

I usually let it dry 75% so the hair is stil damp, and then you can mold it into a bun while the hair is still soft.

I've never heard of the other kind your refering to, just try to use what works for you the best Devin. :)

I think you can also use these. I have seen several ladies use this phony bun using the baggie method. As long as you mositurize your ends, you should be able to wear these type of buns.

Ladies, do any of you use those ponytail holders with the attached hair on it? Would this be better than the donut?

Count me in!! I'm going to try to keep the bun thing going til the end of March. It'll be a nice quick and easy style to do when I wake up in the morning and it will protect my ends. But man is it going to be borrrrring  I'm so used to wearing it out and i don't think my sweetie will appreciate it much but he'll just have to get used to it :) Good luck to me!

I want to join :) In 2004 I went on a 6 month bun challenge and one day my man said "Baby can't you do something else with your hair". So I feel what you mean.

I'm siked about the challenge. My only concern is that my hair got longer but thinner in the two or three areas where I had the bun everyday so my stylist suggested I just use updos that don't require I use a ponytail holder. Any suggestions on how to avoid that problem this time.

thank you so much for answering ALL my questions! i am in!:)

I think I am going to use a phony bun as well b/c I dont want to have to brush my hair all over to get it in the right places...Is there a way to avoid this or is my hair just not long enough?

Hello Ladies,

I am new to the site and I am trying to find out also, is there a way to keep from brushing your hair so much and keep it laying down to wear a bun and is it ok to wear the hair scrunchies?

Charleyg, Hey. I wear my hair in a bun most of the time. After washing my hair and towel drying it slightly, I mix activator gel, oil, and my leave in conditioner together and apply it to my hair. I comb it with my showercomb into a ponytail. Then I apply a scarf to my hair, wearing it a little tighter as usual.

Activator gel is great because it makes my hair show a real wave pattern. When I do this method, I have no need for a brush. When I stopped using this method, my hair started breaking in the front :( but now I am back on track!

I wear satin hair scruncies, which were bought at Walgreens. Stay away from terry cloth scruncies, because they absorb the natural sebum (fat, oil) that your hair makes.

Like I said in an old post, wearing lip gloss and dangle earrings really make your bun look great! I'm all for buns!

I am in.....I start clinicals next week and we have to have our hair off the collar. I am hoping for a lot of length because I plan on wearing a bun at least 5 days out of the week...no heat!

neva!! at least until april that is....

I am also in... :yep: I will wear a bun until wash day, which is once a week. I have been on this challenge already personally. I am also going to purchase more hair accessories and earrings to spice up the bun (for those special occasions).

I agree with anky, wearing lip-gloss and dangle earrings really make your bun look great!

whoa! I forgot about this thread
hopefully everyone is still able to maintain their protective styles for one more month (march). I know I will :yep:

anyone else feeling this way:
for me, at the moment I am tired of dealing with my hair right now. I just want to give it a break, so there will be no relaxing either (too much hassle for me right now) until the spring. Instead I will be protective styling with buns, washing/conditioning once per week, misting daily my bun daily with water and coating it with olive oil and wild growth oil. Anyone else want to join me??

Yeh i'm tired too. the longer my hair gets the more it pees me off. i think its a bun thing 4 a while
