August 2016: Hits & Misses

Miss: Bask/Bekura Apple & Sorghum Syrup. I have a Ph.D in Pre-Poo-ology. This isn't a good pre-poo! At least, not for my hair, :nono: It only has one penetrating oil and it's down the list. That's probably why.
Smells lighter than a green apple Jolly Rancher, but on that vein. Too tacky to use as a sealant. I don't know what I'm going to do with the rest of this
.

@MileHighDiva
I Agree with this entirely. 100%. This is exactly how I felt.

I just could not figure out this product. For me, it was a total waste of money and that's when it was $12-$14.

Now it's highly overpriced and I still don't know what it's actually good for?

Hit:

Oyin Hair Dew. While I don't 100% get the hype, mostly because I don't want to lol, what I do get is using a moisturizer and not having to use a sealer. You know how nice that is. My hair is really soft and doesn't feel anything other than moisturized. I don't even want to cowash right now, but I'm going to. Everyone I know who has tried this loves it and I know they are going to be glad I like it. It is definitely a staple for me. Do they sell it in liter size?

I'm sure it's the squalene.

Hit/Holy GRAILS:

Qhemet Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee -
MY GOODNESS. I revisited this after a couple years and I'm glad I did. The smell is great. My SO told me it made him hungry for chocolate and he doesn't even eat chocolate like that! I've used this to detangle my hair before shampooing, to twist, and as a refresher on dry hair. It works phenomenally for ALL of these. I lost very little hair yesterday after detangling and my hair is extremely soft and smooth.

Aethiopika Hair Butter -
This is my new holy grail sealant. I think I love this because of the conditioning ingredients (behenyl esters). The smell isn't my favorite and is a bit strong but my goodness. My hair was moisturized for a good 5 days before I moisturized again. I've noticed that the SSKs aren't sprouting up like they would before also. My hair looks and feels great and the jar should last a while!

Kinda Miss:
Curls Passionfruit Paste -
This just felt like an oily mess on my edges. The hold isn't really there for me and the oiliness of the paste caused me to break out near my edges. I will try it more but I'm not impressed so far.

I like this but I certainly don't love it. It was just okay for me after a few uses. At first it felt really good but it soon died down after using it a few times.

@Aggie and @Saludable84, this was my experience as well. Heard everyone raving about it so I bought it in the winter. At first it worked well the first couple of uses. Very moisturized and soft hair. As soon as the weather got warmer it started drying my hair out very quickly. I now use it for my boys. I also bought the burnt sugar pomade which was a complete waste. I'm going to give it another try when it gets colder but I don't have high hopes. Even on my boys hair I have to reapply daily. One son has curly 3b hair and the baby has curly 4a hair.

This SM Low porosity leave in is reminding me of CRN Curl Love + Ajani balm combo. My ponytail is so soft & silky feeling

What is this?! The year of the staples?! I've had so many hits this year.

Bae was in reference to the detangler's performance?

See!!!! Y'all making me wanna purchase that SM rose oil line gel-cream now, to see if it pairs as beautifully with the SM lowpo detangler as I've heard.

Oooooooo . . .

Yes. I did not detangle just to see how it would work and it really did melt the tangles away. I applied some Curl Keeper Original and shingled to do a WNG and it was superb. Definitely worth the pass thus far.

@shawnyblazes :toocool:

@Saludable84 It melted the tangles you say? :user:.....:abducted:

I mean, I rarely have major tangles. Once my hair is wet, I can literally detangle under water :look:. I gently applied my SM JBCO Masque, waited, applied Aussie Moist on top of it, left it for another 3 minutes and rinsed. When I applied the SM, there were tangles, but for once, I wasnt tempted to rip them apart. Even knots were easy to unravel. When I was shingling, it was so smooth. Ive never had that experience.

Never.

 MISS: Ouidad Water Works Clarifying Shampoo
This stuff ain't clarifying JACK! I did two lathers on DD (who I've been letting wash her own hair all summer) and she still had white, gummy buildup at the roots. I broke out the Redken Hair Cleansing Cream and that knocked it right out. At least now I KNOW my HG clarifier.

Hit:
SM LP detangler. I used it on soaking wet hair, so I'm not sure if that's makes a difference, but it detangled very well and here it is Saturday (used it Thursday) and my hair is so soft. I love it right now. I think using it on soaking wet hair was the key as I still don't trust glycerin. The smell is very overpowering as I still smelled it yesterday in my hair. Some might be put off of it. Burned my eyes. And I smelled it every time I turned my head.

Possible Hit:
Curl Keeper Original. It's very thin and watery like, so you don't need a lot, but it went on well and then I shingled it in. It's not hard or crunchy. Just helps you hold curls without the actual hold. Not bad so far.

Revisited Hit:
DevaCurl No-Poo. Glad I saved my bottle. Mint smell is great. Cleans pretty good and left my hair soft. I think this also added to the WNG success. Like it just a tad better than Oui.dad but they are both reallllllly good.

Continued hit: Aussie Moist as a leave in and detangler underneath Wetline Xtreme Gel. My wash and gos have been consistently defined, shiny, and elongated.

New Hit: banded pineappling. Regular banding left my hair elongated but too flat. A regular pineapple gave me the volume I want but no stretch. So I tried a pineapple and banded the ponytail from mid length to near the ends (which wasn't that long. It required one band, lol). When I take down, I have volume, some stretch, and my curls aren't as distorted as they usually get after regular banding.

Can you post a picture of this? I can't seem to visualize this but I'm intrigued
