Are you a HAIRIST??

Not really. I know from experience w/ friends and family that hair health can be affected by many things other than bad products, neglect, and/or too much time/money wasted on hair. A person's health or lack of, can drastically affect their hair condition outside of their control. It's all too complicated for me really, but I try to accept people as they come not as I think they should be.

uhm, I might be. AND because I am, I'm in everybody's hair business

My prejudices are: "she needs a good DC" or "she should NOT be perming", or "Why doesn't she take care of her hair?" All these judgments do not take into consideration the reasons behind the poor hair health.

Can you be more specific? Do you mean do I judge a person by their hairstyle or just by the lack of healthy hair?

This is me too. All of my friends have healthy hair b/c I'm all up in their hair business. "Girl you should take this conditioner and sit under the dryer" I don't play that!:lachen:

I'm not. What people do with there hair is there own business. In the beginning of my journey i was a hairist, but shorty after that i learned. But i do always have inner thoughts, lol.

yes....but I am not mean to them or anything I just think in my head...why don't they wash that? Or her hair is overprocessed....matter of fact I just analyze.

Nope. I assume that they have been taught wrong (as most of us were, before we discovered this board) and all I can do is either hope they get a chance to learn (if they aren't close to me), or drop some knowledge on them (if we are cool like that).

I agree with JustKiya. I just assume that they were misinformed like most of us...until we found the hair boards. HOWEVER, I figure out what their hair might benefit from...you know, just in case they ever asked me. :lachen:I mean, it has happened before. I was on my job delivering boxes to students at my University when this girl stopped me and said, "Ummm...can I ask you a personal question?" :look::yep: "What do you put in your hair?" I laughed gave a very brief rundown of my regimen and then gave her the address to this site.

LOL at this title! :lachen:

Umm, no. Only becuz I've had jacked up hair before as a teen when I had no idea how to care for a relaxer...or just didn't feel like combing it every day. :look: So I have no room to judge. I am just grateful my rear is in gear and I'm keepin' it together myself.

If anyone asks I will happily provide tips tho'.

Yes, my name is SuperNova and I am a hairist. when I see ladies with burnt smelly hair, and grease dripping around the edges, split ends that they seem to just not care about. When I see ladies with fly hair, but their little daughter's look a hot mess, I wonder what hair values they have? Did their mama's teach them to look a hot mess on purpose? Are they just lazy? Do they feel a certain way toward people who keep their hair at least 'looking' like something? Do they even want to overcome their jacked up hair issues?

Forgive me, I need help

No, too many people have tow up heads of hair for me to judge someone based on that only. I'm talking black, white, asian, etc. Bad hair is more common than healthy hair.

Could people give the same reasoning/ acceptance to a racist?

No I don't judge them...I sympathize more than anything....I do take notice if their hair is a mess and think that they just don't know about healthy hair care practices, just like many of us didn't at one point in time...

not really, but I notice people's hair more often now than before LHCF. I rarely make comments. I also get noticed depending on how I'm wearing my hair, most people reserve their comments regardless of how it looks...:\

HELL YEAH.

To make matters worse, if it's really "tow up" (that's a southern word) I may call them out on that lack luster shyt. On the flip side if their hair is banging I ALWAYS give them compliments (even if I DIDN'T do tha 'do).

I know thats not the 'politically correct' thing to do, but because I love this industry, I want them to get their look together...it's 2008 boo...handle that!

D

Umm...I guess I am. When I see someone with color in her hair...I'm like oh what a nice color...but it is sooo damaged...smdh :nono: Or hair is long but...there is always a but...unless its on point. Which is seldom...:ohwell:

Not normally, but I'll be an instant hairist when someone w/chewed up hair comes up grabbing mine trying to give me "advice" like 'you need a touch up/flat iron/grease' bla bla bla...

No. I feel about hair the way other women may feel about skin or nails--it's just what I'm into and I like to spend time on it. I don't look down on others because they don't choose to do the same things. Some people are just happier not worrying about their hair and when they feel they want longer hair they wear wigs/weaves/extensions. It may not be the healthiest thing for their hair (just like my nail-biting habit may not be the healthiest thing for my nails) but it's just them and I have no right to judge them.

P.S. I concur with Chocobuddah. The only way I'll start looking at your hair funny is if you come up to me and judge my hair. But I'm not going to argue over it. I'll just keep my opinion to myself.
