nope i still get them with moisturized hair just less of them. curly hair loves to tie itself in knots....its the nature of the beast:nono:

Re: Are SSK's are sign of dry hair

I wonder whether they're a sign of needing a trim - but I'm attributing everything to that atm, cos I really need one..

No, not from what I've experienced. I get SSK's when I let my hair spend too much time doing its own thing. Like if I cowash and have to run out the house without a light detangling, I know I'm gonna have hell on my hands when i detangle

If you just look at my hair the wrong way it will tie itself in knots :-/

Re: Are SSK's are sign of dry hair

I get more of them when my hair is dry then when it is not. When I first went natural I wore a twa for 4 years and used Sta Sof Fro daily. I never had SSKs. Didn't even know what they were. Now I am very familiar with them.

Now I get them but I get them more in the driest parts of my hair.

Re: Are SSK's are sign of dry hair

When I was experimenting with daily cowashing, I had really bad ssk.
My hair likes to tangle around itself at any opportunity it gets.

I have to keep it stretched and keep the manipulation to a minimum.

I rarely get them. Even when my hair was dry, I didn't get any. They have just never really been a problem for me. I think some people are just more prone to get them than others, even with very moisturized hair.

For me, absolutely. I lubricate my ends 3-4x a week to lessen their frequency. It really helps; along with trimming regularly, and wearing protective styles.

Well. The strange thing is I used to have a problem with SSKs years ago for a long while. Then it went away. I don't get frequent trims and I no longer have SSK whether I'm dry, or moisturised:perplexed

I strongly believe it happens because of the type of products used and how the hair is moisturised. I used to be a product junkie, so the things I prefer to use and the order I do it in has changed. I believe switching away from certain types of products stopped them happening, but lord knows what it was exactly.

I know the butters/oils are very popular, but I got them more when I was into them. Might be wrong though. It could be something else.

I have no idea. I thought it was because I needed a trim and had tons of splits. But I've been getting my hair cut like clock work but I still have single strand knots.

Nope. I get them moisturized as well. I was looking at my flat ironed hair yesterday and I saw quite a few even AFTER I trimmed. I just live with them.

I am sure I have/get them, but I have never paid attention to it so I don't know. Ignoring it doesn't seem to have hindered my hair health so I will keep ignoring it .

This is what my hair does. In my crown I have coils so them thangs have a mind of their own.

It helps for me to blow dry when I wash.

I think its the nature of the beast as DarkJoy said. The way you wear you hair too can affect how often you get them. Keeping hair stretched or locked in stretched styles as opposed to doing WNGs can help to keep them at bay.

It definitely isn't due to hair not having moisture because my hair threatens to not up when I try to redo twists with product on them. I shared that experience in a discussion along those lines. I find my hair easiest to work with immediately after a wash with nothing on it.

I get them when my hair is not completely even. My ends need to be BLUN T to prevent them. Dry or moisturized doesn't seem to make much of a difference I think.
