Apply your conditioner like a relaxer

I do this too when I have the extra time. I can always tell a difference.

I think it was Sistaslick I got this tip from.:yep:

I'm gonna try this method on my next wash day. I already bought the brushes from sallys for $.99.

This is how I apply conditioner to my braids, only I start from about an inch away from my scalp and smooth all the way to the ends of my hair. After doing that to a few of the braids, I plait them together to get them out of the way so I can focus on another set.

I've been spending a lot on time watching Youtube videos and I really like the ones by Lorraine's Tips. I tried her mayonnaise, egg and amla pre-poo treatment and it felt great afterwards. I sectioned my hair and smoothed it down the length of my hair like in the video. I also followed this up with a CW using Humetress conditioner, I wanted to finish the bottle and my hair came out great. Applying any products like this helps to cover all you hair and although I never tried it before I will be applying products like this in future. Check out Lorraine on Youtube she is so down to earth and gives some useful tips

Do you have the link?

I've recently started deep conditioning and this definitely makes a huge difference!--I have very thick hair and I'm 10 weeks post and slapping it on the top was not gettin the job done at all. This, plus the denman to work it through the ends, leaves my hair so soft and detangled.

Great info! I've never thought about doing this on my hair, but I do this to my daughter's edges when setting it after her hair's been washed. But I'll have to try this to her entire head; and mine as well.

Thanks for sharing, Bublin.

Yeah, this is how I apply conditioner on my hair and on my daughters' hair.
In fact, I only handle my hair in small sections, no matter what I am doing. It ensures that I am not neglecting any areas and its great for preventing tangles.

^^ditto. i've been doing this for years - applying like relaxer in sections. for me it's the only way.

I will def. try this...sounds like it is exactly what I need!

Update 8/22/08: Wow I tried this...I think this is the best hair tip of the year (or several years). My NG has NEVER, I repeat, NEVER been this manageable, soft, laid down, defined...you name anything good about new growth and my hair is doing it!

I realize that I was never really conditioning my NG properly b/c I wasn't getting it real good. Now I will be buying a tub of condish and going to town every week. Heck, who knows, I may even transition! This is totally changing what I think about my new growth. It's been almost a week and it's still soft and not drawing up.

I heart LHCF :-)

I always apply pre-poos and dc like that all the time. I apply in sections, but I've found that using my fingers was a little messy so I invested in a dye applicator. It's so much easier to use.

I had told Gym I had did this a few weeks ago...but I realized I didn't do the past two times when I dc'd...it really does make a difference.

I will be more conscious of application for the next two months..and make sure I do it this way going forward...

Good reminder thread...:

If you suffer from ultra dry hair and/or breakage try this..........

I have been suffering breakage for too long and deep conditioning wasn't doing the trick. So, i thought my hair needed protein. It was still no better but getting worse.

I have 3c/4a hair which visually looks soft yet my new growth feels like a brillo pad - rough and dry. What was i doing wrong. I mean i'm slapping a ton of conditioner on my hair, using moisturiser until my hair was a greasy mess, sealing with oil, only roller setting......still at every wash i had a handfull of hair and my hair line looks bad.

Until i watched Lorraine S's You Tube video. She applied her pre-poo like a relaxer.....

Small parts, pasting onto the new growth and all down the length of her hair.

I did this with my regular Queen Helene cholesterol conditioner (as this is thick) with added Olive Oil. It took me about 15 minutes using my fingers. As i was going over my head i noticed the front looked like i hadn't put any condish on it. My poor hair was thirsty. I pasted my whole head down including the length of my hair with conditioner. I then put on the plastic cap and did my work-out for 30 minutes and then rinsed.

For the first time in months only a few hairs were in the drain. My hair was sooo soft.

I shampoo'd once with cream of nature and then applied my condish in the same way but not as methodically. Sat under the hooded drier and rinsed.

Very little hair in the shower drain. I am shocked.

I rollerset with a fine tooth comb for the first time. Just a few hairs in the comb.

I thought slapping a load of condish in my hair was sufficient but clearly i wasn't getting to my roots and thats where my hair is breaking.

Congratulations!!!! I have been doing this method for years now.

It is a great way to get total conditioning.:yep:

I used to do this with every DC; I kinda do it now, but I use my fingers. I used to comb it through; was that bad??

I did this at the weekend with an applicator brush, slept with the conditioner then shampooed in the morning. At 8 weeks post, it worked wonders for my new growth, I don't know why I hadn't tried it before!

Are only the naturals doing this? As dense as some natural heads are, I can see why yo;d want to do this method but like, don't you guys run out of product more quickly doing this?? My Joico is too much for me to be using half a bottle on DC.. is all im sayin

wow! very good idea! Thanks for this tip!!!

I usually just slather it on, then pop a plastic cap on my head, then sit under my dryer.

I'm going to try this on my next wash! :yep:

I'm relaxed but needed to do this because my new growth is out of control. I used about 2-3 times more conditioner than I usually use but the results outweighed that.

I usually use this method when I do my homemade protein treatment (courtesy of Traycee). Instead of using my expensive conditioner I use a cheapie and combine it with an egg and coconut oil.

So, if you would prefer not to use up all your expensive product I suggest purchasing a cheaper conditioner and doing some kinda pre-poo concoction or try the protein treatment. I also think you can substitute the egg for advocado so that it can be a moisturizing treatment. I heard that here a while back. I would try to do a search on the advocado/moisturizing treatment to make sure.

Just wanted to give some alternatives to using your Joico. HTH

i'm definitely going to try this method next time i DC.

i always just slather it on and rub it in a little

i always assume that i got it everywhere...and it FEELS like i did
but maybe not?

when i do try this, i'll come back and tell you if there was any difference.

Oh so this is why my hair would still fell dry after a dc! Will definitely be doing this from now on! So does this mean that the deep conditioners I thought weren't working for my hair really were, just my technique was wrong? Who would've thought! Thanks for the great tip!!

Thank you so much for this tip!!

I did a protein treatment last night, applied it like a relaxer with my fingers. (slept in it)

Then a moisture treatment this morning, applied the same way.

Result: I am going to try to stretch my relaxer. (today is the first stretch day) My new growth feels awesome - I had sworn never to stretch, because the last time i did miss a perm, all my hair broke off at the demarcation line! (Jr. High)

This is the best tip I have ever had!

I'm trying this right now. I used an applicator brush with AOHSR condish and am going to work out for about 30 minutes and rinse. It's been in for an hour already. It took 13 minutes to apply.

This makes so much sense, I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of it. Thanks OP for turning the light bulb on, I'm definitely going to DC like this going forward.
