Anyone using Designer Touch Lye?

I only saw one thread on it in the search. I was wondering if anyone is using this relaxer. I used it once ages ago when I got my hair cut Anita Baker short. It was actually a nice relaxer. I think I want to try it again, but I was wondering if any ladies here have had experience with it.

I self relaxed(with help of mom) with it for the first time in feb and it was great. it's become my new relaxer. it straightened very well and best of all it didnt burn.

Yep, I think I am going to try this one next time. I hope my BSS carries it. They carry just about everything else. I read someone say it was harder to find the lye version, but hopefully they have it.

Do you use their conditioner after you relax?

are you talking about the post perm treatment that you use before the neutralizing shampoo?? i already had the affirm neutralizing conditioner so i just used that. but i do plan on getting the designer touch one when affirm runs out.

yeah, that is what I am talking about. I saw it on their website. I did not know they had that step. I cannot wait to try this, I hope it works for me. Vitale did not cut it.

YUP.

I just relaxed using it. you leave it in for 10-15 minutes with no heat or cap.it's pretty liquidy.

Something about not neutralizing immediately makes me nervous....but its no different then affirm which worked fine....I think I'm just bothered by the fact that the beautician doesn't normally use it. I'm actually going to the BSS myself to buy it, then I'm going to tell her how to use it :rolls eyes:

Where can I buy this brand of relaxer online? THe Lye version? Because it's been near impossible to get it online and it's even harder to find in stores. I would love to try the lo-lye version, let me know. TIA!

I used the feel the same way, but the conditioning step is also a bit neutralizing beacuse of the PH level. I don't know the PH level of the PPT, but I am assuming it is around the level of most neutralizing shampoos.

bumping this. Do people use regular or mild. I was hoping the regular was a bit milder than Affirm regular.

I use the Designer Touch No-Lye for Sensitive Scalp which IMO is excellent.

I've been using it for about 3 years and Its the only relaxer that actually takes to my hair. Most relaxers I dont even finish applying before it starts to burn really badly.

This relaxer I can get to the end and leave it for about 5 mins before its needs to be rinsed.

As for the post perm treatment, I have forget to use it once and I didnt get the same effect when using it.

I've used Designer Touch relaxers for almost 5 years and I have no desire to use anything else. It does not leave my hair feeling dry. The post-treatment is great. I use the regular; I also love the sheen it gives.

I too have been using Designer Touch Sensitive Scalp no lye. I've used it for for over 10 years and wouldn't think about switching. I switched once to Senstivie by Natures b/c I trusted my then "stylist" she used the same relaxer on everyone else and their hair fell out immediately. She used it on me and my hair fell out the week later. After that I went to a new hairdresser and back to my old relaxer. The post perm treatment is a protein treatment that restores those elments onto the relaxed hair

I'm new to posting here on LHCF (but not new to LHCF by far). Glad to finally be a posting member. I've been to several of your hair albums and I've seen a few of you on mine. Hi!

Okay, down to business. I was wondering if there's any updates (or further thoughts) on the use of Designer Touch Lye. I just recently switched back to it from awhile back. One of my favorite hairdressers ever used to use it and my hair did really well with it (not sure which strength or formula though - attempting to learn). So, I'm switching back after using no-lye for a few years (my hair grew well, but it was always dry and missing that "silky" factor without a lot of hard work). But, my scalp is really sensitive, so I wanted to use something gentle. Can't remember ever burning much with Designer Touch (maybe like twice in the 3-4 years I used it).

So, I got a touch-up with the Regular formula about 3 weeks ago. I'm a very coarse and resistent 4a/b. The edges and sides straightened well - not 100% bone straight, but straight enough to airdry straight and not need heat. But, the crown/inside didn't do as well. After my first wash, it got so THICK again and was obviously underprocessed. I went back for a corrective relaxer on that part last week thinking that it was an operator error (went to a new haidresser this time) and she processed it for another 15 mintues or so, smoothing it decently as she went. After washing this weekend, that middle part still isn't as straight as I need it to be (yes "NEED" - my hair is thick!).

So, I'm wondering if I should use the Super next time. Anybody have any experience with the Super? My main concern is with burning - I don't want that. Also, just wondering how much faster it works and how much stronger it is compared to the regular.

Also, I didn't use the Post Perm Treatment - do you think that makes any difference in the straightening effects of the relaxer? I have a jar of regular left that I could try to use again with the PPT next time.

Anyone with Designer Touch experience, please let me know. TIA

I had to give up DT. I really like the results right after relaxing. It gave me similar results to Silk Elements but...........it reverted on me right after my next wash. I was so disappointed. I was so excited using DT products.

Anyway I still like the post perm and the neutralizing conditioner.

I used the regular strength and I think I kept it on for 30 minutes. It's been over a year since I've used it.

Okay. Thanks for your response. I found a few other threads about it (with some of your responses) when I did a search.

I must say, though, that even though my hair still has some texture to it, it feels SO much "better" than when I was using no-lye. I did a protein treatment (Dudley DRC-28) and followed with some Humecto this weekend - and I've had NO breakage! I had to Maxiglide it yesterday and it just looks and feels so much better now (thicker, too)! Using heat when I had no-lye would just give me bad results with breakage.

Here's my game plan:

1) Use this last jar of DT Regular next time (with the PPT and the neutralizing shampoo) to see if I see any difference.

2) It that doesn't work, I'll try the Super.

3) If that doesn't work, I'm going to try that Silk Elements. Sounds like you and lots of others are liking the Silk Elements Lye. Sounds like it's a little stronger but still gentle enough not to burn.
