Anyone still transitioning?

I'm seriously thinking about going natural again. This time, I don't see the BC in my future. Any tips that I could use? I know in the past how I got my natural hair manageable. I used SoftTouch grease...anything else?

I'm still transitioning. I would also like to know who is transitioning too.

I am a 4a relaxed head. I don't use hair grease or put anything on my scalp. The ONLY products, and I mean ONLY products I am using is Pantene Relaxed and Naturals Conditioner and Pantene Relaxed and Naturals Oil Cream moisturizer. I got over my fear of conditioner washing but I tried it and my hair is doing well. I CW everynight, rollerset and let it airdry over night and in the morning I rub on Jojoba oil. I like doing this. My hair isn't breaking, snapping, is soooo soft yadda yadda yadda.

You mentioned you want to go natural AGAIN? What did you do last time to transition or were you a natural head all your life?

Congrats on your decision :) . Did you check out the Transitioner's support thread? there were some tips in there :)

Do people still go in there? Is that an active thread? Can someone bump it?

Thanks for bumping the thread Jewell. :D

I am still transitioning. Next week Friday makes 1 year since my last touch up! I can't believe I made it this far. I still have problems styling my hair tho'

I am transitioning!

I am 5 months post relaxer now. I have been wearing wash and gos and lately braid outs (i use french braids).

Next I will try spiral set or flexirods

I Conditioner Wash every other day.

Initally I wore my hair in a bun but I can no longer wear my hair in a bun so I just wear a head band and a wash n go or braid out.

i am too. last touch up was sept 2nd. its been hard because i read what someone else does or uses and immediately jump on that. so i don't really know what works and what doesn't. i am already a product junkie!

i don't really have a solid routine but i wash every third day. i surge and mango butter in the am and i moisturize every night with something (surge and mango butter, mtg pudding or wgo). i have been air drying since i decided to trans. and i am currently doing the bun/protective style challenge for 3 months.

I still am (no BC in my future). THe HARDEST part for me when I started was the 1st 6 months. Dealing with two textures requires a lot of PATIENCE and trying out new products for your hair.

During this time, I "relaxed" so to speak with a lime juice/coconut milk mixture. I really believe this is what prevented me from losing a lot of hair at the line of demarcation.

Gently detangling your hair is important too. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Serum has the best slip. I also liked Suave's Coconut conditioner for detangling too.

Good luck. When I think of other things that helped me , I"ll post.

Yes, still transitioning. I'm 6 1/2 months post. Poo, cond & blowdry once a week or every 2 weeks. For some weird reason it seems, the more newgrowth the easier to manage.

I did braids for a few months, then the big BC. I LOVED the BC and it loved me. But...my hair was hard to manage when it started growing out past 3 inches. The grease and mousse that worked initially stopped working and just sat on my hair. I tried clarifying, but then that stopped working.

What I really want is long natural hair that I can braid and twist and whatever. Right now, I just wish I had wash and wear hair. So, I'm actually thinking about transitioning to a texturizer. I'd love to have a cute texturized hairstyle w/ a cute haircut and then gradually grow that out.

I think it's hard to transition w/ a short ear-length bob because new growth is so much easier to see...unless I do the flat-iron newgrowth thing. I might start washing more often. Hmm..

I am still transitioning. It's been a year and 7 mos. I've been doing braidouts the whole time. I'm getting sick of transitioning because braidouts take me hours to do. I have to do small sections because my hair is so darn thick. I'm really thinking of cutting it at the 2 year mark and having it texturized.

9 months. I look crazy most of the time with a headband. lol I use Design Essentials suggested by my stylist at Too Groovy to soften my hair. :)

I'm still transitioning to natural. Friday marks week 35, and will be officially 8 months since my last relaxer. No plans at all to transition to texturizer or to re-relax.

My natural hair is very managable to me--I CW twice weekly, moisturize and braid it nightly. I think my transition is going pretty well. Lately I've been lazy, and just putting it into a bun. At some point, I will start doing styles again--I want to do a flat twist on the front and roller set in the back.

I'm starting to get a wee bit tired of the relaxed hair, but I will stay the course because I'm not ready to BC yet. Unless something extra-ordinary occurs, I will BC next March.

I'm transitioning. I'm 3 1/2 months post, so far so good. :)

I Co Wash once a week, Deep Condition every two weeks and wear Protective Styles 90% of the time. S-curl no drip Spray and pure Coconut Oil keeps my hair soft and managable.

*A few tips*

*Moisturize your hair especially your new growth atleast 4-5 times per week.

*Detangle with a thick creamy conditioner using a wide tooth comb.

*Avoid using too much heat.

*Keep it simple.

*And have ~patience~.

HTH~ :)

Transitioner ovah heah  and lovin' it! :yay: I'm currently 38 weeks almost 9 months post relaxer. No cut, chop nor trim.....I do a variety of things to my hair(rollersets, ponytail rollersets, pinned updos, braid/twistouts, etc...). I can't freeform wash-n-go the way I want as of yet because of the stark difference between my natural hair and my relaxed ends. I mainly do curly, bantu knotted, twist/braid out and wash 'n go puffs.

How long did you used to wait before you touched up?

I used to relax every 3-4 months (13-16 wks). Congrats on 9 months of naturalness!

I'm still transitioning too! Now that my natural hair is longer (5-6inches) and heavier it lays down easier instead of poofing out, making my buns and ponytails much easier. As my hair grows out, the less it likes shampoo. I went from shampooing weekly to as needed (a month or more). I've gotten rid of most of my salon products because i go through conditioner so quickly and poo so infrequently. I use tressemme and dove to cowash and the high priced products for deep conditioning. The must have for me is my DENMAN brush!

Ooo my hair is like that too, straight shampoo is a no-no. My hair would be so dry. Now I drench my hair with conditioner, let sit, then I apply a tiny amount of shampoo in my hand, run that through my hair, rinse, deep condition.

I probably will be for the next 2 years at the rate my hair is growing!

Tell me about it...I'm going on 18 weeks and my growth has slowed down. It's looking dry, ruff, and nappy. My hubby said that's it's really curly at the roots but I can't see it. All I see are naps.

I'm in the 8th month of my transition. I will cut the relaxed ends off when I have enough natural hair to pull it all into a bun/puff. I'm there in the back, but the front of my hair doesn't reach.

Really? You don't find that it tugs too hard on the relaxed ends? I am very gentle with my hair but I had to stop using the Denman after month 6 cuz every time I would brush there was straight hair sticking out of it. The Denman will get more use when I'm fully natural.
