maybe a protein treatment here and there..but anyone not really a PJ and found themselves retaining length anyway? I guess, ladies who say "it doesn't take all of that" Are you that lady? Come share what oil you seal with and how often you use water to moisturize. Your starting length and current if you'd like. Come on I'm interested :)

Oh trust me, my hair has grown 2 inches in two months with my coconut oil, jojoba oil and water rinsing regimen.

First thing I did was throw away my deep conditioner. It was too thick, too heavy and was causing breakage because of the weight when I tried to comb.

Second thing I did was cut back on shampooing. Now I shampoo every 10-14 days compared to the weekly washing I did before. I water wash in between with the pads of my fingers and the warm water under the faucet to emulsify the dirt.

I slowed down on regular conditioner use. Now if I must use conditioner or feel guilty for letting my products go to waste, I just use it on the ends of my hair and only after shampooing.

My strands and scalp get a daily dose of good oil lovin. Since early September, my hair has transformed to a silky, kinky curly growing machine.

Nope. I tried doing that (water + oil) and my hair was a dry mess. It was so dry that it needed a few DC to fully recuperate.:nono:

i started doing it a couple of weeks ago. been working great...especially after ive done a condition rinse. i have been using an oil mixture of castor, coconut, olive and apricot (ran out of apricot, though...have to get more.). i also started using vegetable shortening (mine is non-hydrogenated and just contains palm oil...so, not really anything weird). odd thing is, i tried the water for moisture and oil to seal thing years back and it didnt work...not sure why my hair likes it now. dont remember the oils i used back then.

I did it summer 2012 when I was cowashing daily. It felt like a waste using product if I was going to cowash it out the next morning. I sealed my wet hair with meadow foam seed oil and it was fine for the day.

I don't know if it would provide enough moisture in the winter or for longer than a day at a time. I am not about to find out anytime soon. I am also not a minimalist so I missed playing with products.

This is me.

After I cowash, I wrap a t-shirt around my head until my hair is no longer dripping wet. Then I smooth rice bran oil on my hair and install about 4 cornrows so my hair can dry stretched. My hair has been amazingly soft from doing this. Admittedly, my ends will still look a little raggedy unless I seal with something a little heavier like castor oil. Other than that, oil and water work for me quite well.

I don't really moisturize and seal anymore really (maybe once a week).....what I do is in the shower apply a little bit of oil then apply conditioner then apply more oil on top....wait a few minutes then rinse out as much as I can in cool water....the twist my hair up......I find that my hair loves this and it is at its shiniest and most balanced when I do this.......but I don't know if its technically m&s though (I may be do that once a week if at all and i use rose water not regular water)..

With this method I find that I have less ssks and splits and don't have to dust or search and destroy as much.....my hair prefers little to no product in the winter also ( I have never had dryness in the winter) weras the heat and sun in the summer tends to dry my hair out more

But I'm still a product junkie though lol

Yes, I can only do it when my hair is in mini-braids though (about 6 mths/year). I still have so much condish to use up so I only put a squirt into my water/oil spray bottle and use the rest to either co-wash or rub into my ends at night.

I'm still hoping to minimalize my regi even more. I think once my mini braids get longer, I'll be able to keep them in for most of the year. Right now they hang just past APL around BSB. I think it's easier/more practical to be simple with long hair.

GL in your journey! :)

I do my wash n gos this way. I wash my hair. Wrap a towel around till my hair is just damp. Seal with castor oil fluff it then go.
In mornings I mist with water and shake. Rub castor oil on my hands and fluff.
It seems to work for me. My wash n gos have never dried out. They last for a week until next wash day.

I wash my hair with shampoo about once a week. Its been in the 20's and 30's here so, I need to oil everyday with a medium to heavy oil. If I don't use conditioner my hair tangels. I have a spray bottle with water and oil. That I use to hydrate my hair. Then I seal with an oil.

I wanted to come back in here and say that after another 12 days with no hair products--just water rinsing, jojoba and coconut oil--during this torrential first snow storm of the year, my hair has been shiny and agreeable

I used to do this and it definitely did work for me. I would just spritz my hair heavily with water (sometimes add peppermint oil to it for scent and stimulation) and seal it in with castor oil or avocado oil. When it got colder, I would just add shea butter after the oil. I did this for a good year and I did retain alot of growth, but my ends had been previously damaged and I was still hanging onto them so I didn't retain as much as I probably could have.

These days my regimen is still fairly simple I've just added in some products, nothing expensive. Just a leave in conditioner that I use faithfully (the sleek and shine from garnier fructis), and other than that, it's basically the same steps. Water first, then lots of leave in, then I seal it all in with a 50/50 mix of avocado and castor oil. Now that it's getting colder I sometimes follow up with a little avocado butter. But yeah, I haven't deviated from this routine TOO much. But I do DC weekly now, when I was just doing the oil and water thing I wasn't DC-ing and personally, I think my hair thrives off of that extra moisture. But that's really....it. :)

I use just a water/conditioner spritz to moisturize when needed. I don't seal though.

I did an oil (castor) and water (avj/water/jojoba spritz) regimen for a year and it always seemed like something was missing. I switched it up last year and added in a moisture cream leave in. It acted as the binding agent to my water (moisture) and oil (sealant).

Yes, I've been doing this for well over a year, and it is great.

My only products are mudwash, oil, water and powdered milk for protein.

This is a no buildup routine and my hair is so much more moisturized.

I prepoo with EVCO. After washing, I dry in braids, then apply avocado butter, castor and EVCO and rebraid.

The key for me with moisturizing with water is to just spray a bit and work it in, smoothing down the hair. It should feel moisturized and cool to the touch, but not wet. Getting the hair too wet and not working it in meant that the water was evaporating on my hair, leaving it dry (think about when you wash your hands but don't pat them dry). Then I seal with my oils and set in loose bantus/buns or braids.

This regimen is also great for reducing shrinkage.
